2017/18 Annual Club Membership Renewals Now Due

Every one of our 719 athletes and 130 volunteers should of received their annual fixture card and membership renewal form in the post this week. To allow Christine our volunteer club secretary time to process all 850 forms by 31st March. As models of good practice, please can everyone try to be as well organised as Darcie Bass parents who were the very first to return theirs! Please return your ASAP.

Wednesday 1st February saw U20W Hannah Brier set a fantastic time of (7.38) in the 60m at Lee Valley, London to take her top of the British rankings for U20W.

Saturday 28th January was the Welsh Senior Indoor Athletics Championships at Cardiff, not quite so many of our seniors entered this year, however what we lacked in quantity we more than made for in quality, all those that did make it performed excellently. The championships also incorporated some junior championship events. Highlights included medal winning performances from:

Brian Penny

The Club regrets to record the death in April Court Nursing home, of Brian Penny, aged 80. Brian was one of the earliest members of the club and served it faithfully as a shot putter/discus thrower/ hammer thrower for very many years. His Shot performance of 15.39m in 1971 stood as club record until 2008 when it was narrowly eclipsed. In a competitive era of high standards Brian never won a Welsh title but was on the podium on numerous occasions.

Results Round Up From Swansea, Cardiff & Pontrhydyfen

The weekend of Saturday 21st & Sunday 22nd January saw a record entry of over 300 athletes participate at the West Wales Indoor Athletics Championships at Swansea University. It was great to see so many Swansea Harriers athletes and volunteers there. With such a large proportion of the entries being from Swansea there was sure to be an awful lot of medals won, and so it proved:

Leading Athletics Certifciate

On Saturday 14th January there will be a Leading Athletics Coaching Certificate @ Swansea University Indoor Athletics Track, from 1pm to 4pm. This new leadership workshop is for those looking to lead athletics activities for young athletes. Packed full of useful tips and ideas, this three hour workshop is supported by a workbook, support resource and a series of game cards which aid delivery.
