Tough new challenges for the juniors in 2013

UK Athletics will be running the new Youth Development League (YDL) at the start of the summer 2013 season. This will see the U13, U15 & U17 National Young Athletes League and U20 National Junior League being replaced by 2 leagues which are split into two age groups; under 13 & 15 and under 17 & 20.

Cross Country Results from Belfast to Brecon

Saturday 10th November was the British & Irish Masters Cross Country International in Belfast, Ifan Lloyd was the one club member selected to represent Wales and Ifan had a very strong run to finish in 15th in the M50 category. Well done Ifan! Click here for the full results.

Welsh Championships Combined Events Results

Sunday 4th November were the Welsh Athletics & Welsh Schools Combined Event Championships in Cardiff. The club had over 20 athletes participating which was a great turnout, some representing their school, some their club and some both! In a long days competition there were lots of personal bests set.

1000 and counting

Many thanks to all those of you who have handed in your vouchers so far, we have had over 1000 so far. Please make sure you hand in all you have left by next week in training. Swansea Harriers has been very lucky to be a finalist of the South Wales Evening Post Cash for the community scheme in conjunction with Western Power Distribution.

Our very own Dewi Griffiths has been shortlisted as one of the European Athletes of the month for October, after a series of very impressive performances on the road and in cross country.

A message from our founder members

50th Anniversary Dinner

 Many thanks to all the members of the organising committee and all who contributed  to provide such a superb evening at the Marriot Hotel  last Saturday.

One could not have imaged back in 1962 that 50 years on so many would gather together as members, past members, supporters, volunteers  or just friends to celebrate the Golden Anniversary of Swansea Harriers and recognise  the success it has achieved.

Results Round Up

Sunday 21st October was round 1 of the cross country league at hot and sunny Newbridge Fields Bridgend, incorporated into the match was the West Glamorgan Cross Country Championships.

Saturday 27th October saw a 260 sell out for the clubs 50th Anniversary Dinner and awards night at the Marriot Hotel. There were many past, present and future athletes and volunteers there and all had a fantastic evenings celebrations. Our sincere gratitude and thanks goes out to all those who have supported the club in so many different ways for the last 50 years far to many to name them all.

UK Athletics Coaching Assistant Qualification

With close to 100 extra new members joining in the last 2 weeks since training has started back for the U11 to U15 age groups, due to the extra publicity the sport has received since the Olympic Games, it is vital that more parents come forward to offer their help to the lead coaches in sessions to maintain as effective coaching ratios as possible. For the club to continue to thrive and survive we must have more support from parents please.

Weekend Round Up

The sports awards season got underway on Saturday night the first of which was the Welsh Athletics Annual Awards Night held in Cardiff. Swansea Harriers had a very successful night reflecting what a great year the club has had in 2012 in what is also our 50th Anniversary year.
