Brian Penny

The Club regrets to record the death in April Court Nursing home, of Brian Penny, aged 80. Brian was one of the earliest members of the club and served it faithfully as a shot putter/discus thrower/ hammer thrower for very many years. His Shot performance of 15.39m in 1971 stood as club record until 2008 when it was narrowly eclipsed. In a competitive era of high standards Brian never won a Welsh title but was on the podium on numerous occasions. He was also an enthusiast for the "Heavy Throws", notably on one occasion, organising a "weight for height" competition  versus Irish athletes as part of a match at Sketty Lane. Brians funeral is on February 3rd in Luton - his original family home, details are available from John Collins jh.collins@hotmail.co.uk
