End Of Track & Field Season Club Break, Indoor Track Good News and Bad news, Queens Baton Relay & U17 & U20 Social

The club league and cup matches for the summer 2017 season have now concluded and all our athletes have a well deserved break during September to put their feet up as do all our hard working coaches, committee, officials and team managers! Most coaches will recommence training in October, however please contact your personal coach directly to double check when they start back as some will only be giving their athletes two or three weeks off. The club cafe will be closed until Tuesday 3rd October therefore anyone wishing to buy kit will need to wait until then.

Indoor Track Good News & Bad News: Time flies and the indoor track is already a teenager as it is 13 years old this year and the surface shows how much it has been used. The good news is that the entire indoor facility is closing for resurfacing and remarking to hopefully give us another 13 years of usage! The bad news is that it was hoped the work would be carried out during September when the club is on break and before the students return. Paperwork has delayed the start of the work until 1st October and it is anticipated to take up to a maximum of 6 weeks to complete. During this time the changing rooms, toilets and outdoor track are still available for the club. This means athletes need to come appropriately dressed for outdoor training as there is no roof outside or heaters for our sprinters, jumpers and throwers! No doubt there will be little sympathy from our endurance runners or other clubs who have to train outside all year round regardless of weather!

From the 4th to 9th September 2017, Wales will be host to the Queen's Baton for the Commonwealth Games, where it will be travelling over 350 miles of Welsh land covering South, Mid and North Wales. The baton will travel through Swansea on Tuesday 5th September at 7.30am from Knab Rock, Mumbles to the National Waterfront Museum by 10.30am. The club has been very lucky to have three of our members selected to have the honour of carrying the baton on a stage each. Joshua Griffiths, Matthew Rees & Osaze Aghedo and we hope you will come along and watch, details here

Social evening for U17 & U20 athletes: All athletes who have competed for the club on a regular basis this season are invited to a bowling evening on Wednesday 13th September at Tenpin Swansea (cost to athlete £3). In order to book you place please email wendy_slade@sky.com
