Funded Athletes & Results Round Up From Merthyr Mawr, Swansea, Pontardawe, Glynneath, Cardiff, Mountain Ash, Kenfig & Elsewhere

There are lots of results to catch up on from the Christmas and New Year holidays:
 
 
Sunday 8th December was the extremely challenging and sandy Merthyr Mawr Christmas Pudding Multi Terrain race. Our first three men and women home were:
Women: Sharon Leech (53.56) had a fantastic run for 3rd followed home by; 38th Christine Webb (1.21.18) and 39th Kelly Gipson (1.12.19).
Men: 56th Heath Brett (56.59); 79th Andrew Downie (59.41) and 84th Christopher Jones (1.00.14).

Wednesday 18th December was the Afan Nedd Tawe Secondary schools U13 & U15 Sports Hall Athletics county trial at Swansea University, sponsored by Apollo Teaching Services. There was a good turnout of over 70 athletes and almost as many volunteers! The best all rounder in each age group across their four events were:
U15G Megan Gwyther (Bishop Vaughan)
U15B Joseph Beresford (Olchfa)
U13G Amy Beynon (Bishopston)

Sunday 22nd December was the Pontardawe Running Club 5km in Pontardawe, Sharon Leech was our sole representative, finishing 1st lady (20.55) and 4th overall, well done Sharon.
 
 
Thursday 26th December was the annual Glynneath 5 mile boxing day race, fourteen Swansea Harriers were running off their Christmas dinner, our first four men and women home were;
In the mens race there was a fine win for Kristian Jones (22.43) who was joined on the podium by 2nd placed Dominic Smith (25.47); following them home were 14th John Moran (27.55) and 24th Daniel Morgan (28.52).
In the womens race we had four runners all of whom ran superbly well to finish in the top six! 2nd Alaw Beynon-Thomas (29.52); 3rd Llinos Jones (31.56); 4th Gemma Seaman and 6th Emma Baxter (33.35). Very well done to all those who represented the club, click here for the full results.
 
 
Sunday 29th December was the “Old Father Time” 5 mile road race for masters (35+) athletes only held in Cardiff. Swansea Harriers had 4 participating with MM60+ Ifan Lloyd (28.27) placing 15th overall and 1st in his category; MW35+ Llinos Jones (31.10) 36th overall and 1st in her category too; MW40+ Helen-Marie Davies (31.27) 38th overall and 2nd in her category and then MM45+ Calvin Hold 111th overall and 23rd in his age group. New Years Eve Tuesday 31st December was the Nos Glan 5km Road Races at Mountain Ash. In the Mens elite race Kristian Jones had a superb win in (14.15), followed home by 15th Dewi Griffiths in (15.18). In the Womens elite 5km first home was 11th Rachel Davies (18.38), then 17th Luticia Thomas (19.37) and 21st Sharon Leech (20.16).

Wednesday 1st January was the Cornelly Striders 4 mile multi terrain race at Kenfig. Three Swansea Harriers ran first thing new years day! Kate Roberts had a superb run to win the womens race in (22.34) and in the Men Paul Flynn was 15th in (23.24) and just behind was Steve Smith in 16th (23.28). Meanwhile elsewhere….. SM Daniel Beadsley runs (6.89) for 60m at Eltham on 22nd December; SM Gabrielius Stukous runs (86.24) for the half marathon in Malaga, Spain and SM Joshua Griffiths runs an awesome (28.41) for 10km in Houilles, France, taking him to 7th on the UK ranking lists! All three SM set lifetime bests, congratulations all!
 
 

Funded Athletes; 

Based on their performances over 2019 UK Athletics and Welsh Athletics have announced the funded/supported athletes lists for 2020, it is great to see again this year so many Swansea Harriers included in these lists, which is much derived recognition and reward for their efforts and abilities.
