Results & Records Round Up

There are lots and lots of results to catch up on again this week, so in reverse order:

Last night Thursday 6th June club superstar David Greene made his 400m Hurdles debut of 2013 in the Diamond League Golden Gala in Rome, ITALY, Davids time of (48.81) secured him 5th place and takes him straight to number 1 in the European & UK Rankings which is an excellent way to get the season underway against many of the worlds top hurdlers. Wednesday 5th June saw the U11 & U13 teams in round 2 of the triangular series at home in Swansea, with over 150 athletes from all 3 clubs participating it made for a great evenings competition. Very many thanks to all those volunteers who gave up their free time on the evening to make the event happen Helpers 05.06.13.doc Team wise it was a great result for the club who won the match and extend their lead at the top of the table, the results were Swansea (209), Neath (97) and Llanelli (83), very many congratulations to all those athletes who supported the team on such a great result. Individually the main highlights were a club best for U11G Sally Hopkins in the Shot with a throw of (6.88m) beating the old club best of (6.82m) and U13B Brynmor Clements threw (26.63m) in the Discus to take him to 3rd in the UK rankings. Saturday 1st June Senior Women Rachel Johncock once again broke her own 200m club record with a time of (23.74) in Geneva, SWITZERLAND, very many congratulations to Rachel on yet another fine performance. Click here for the full results.

Saturday 1st June saw the U13 & U15 team make the very, very long journey to Rugby for round 2 of the Premier 1 Division Youth Development League in the juniors priority league. The excessive travel and early start did not effect the teams performance and they pulled off another fine result for 2nd on the day and to maintain their 2nd place standing in the league. Very many thanks to all the athletes. officials, parents and coaches who put in another great all round performance it was a real team effort. The final points were Rugby & Northampton (490), Swansea (471), Birchfield (420), Cardiff (411), Notts (375) Bristol & West Mendip (307). Individually highlights on the day included U15B Rhys Harris (11.5) 80m Hurdles takes him to number 2 in the UK; U15B Rhys Davies (37.39m) Discus takes him to 10th in the UK; U13G Gabrielle Christmas (10.3) 75m takes her to joint 15th in the UK; U13G Hannah Davies (11.7) 70m Hurdles takes her to 5th in the UK and her High Jump (1.45m) to 4th.

Saturday 1st June whilst little sister Sally was the first member of the Hopkins household to break a record this year big brother Jac has come very close on several occasions and came very close again in Sport City Manchester in the BMC Grand Prix, his 3rd place time in the 1500m (3.58.31) takes him to 5th in the UK with a very impressive sub 4 minute clocking, very well done Jac. Sunday 2nd June saw the U17 & U20 team also in Rugby for round 2 of the Premier 1 Division Youth Development League, where they made a big improvement on their round 1 performance to secure 4th place on the day. All 6 teams had been hit hard by unavailability due to exams, some harder than others, however all those Swansea athletes cannot be praised enough for showing great team spirit mucking in and competing in several events each, the final points were Birchfield (642.5), Rugby & Northampton (642), Team Avon (538), Swansea (448), Cheltenham, & County (426), Cardiff (308.5). Individually highlights on the day included U17M Michael Wilson (13.9) 100m Hurdles takes him to 15th in the UK; U17W Hannah Brier 100m (12.0) takes her to 4th in the UK and her 200m (24.7) to 4th; U20W Awen Rosser (40.23m) Discus takes her to 4th in the UK.

Over the weekend of Saturday 1st June & Sunday 2nd June club heptathlete U20W Katherine Morris competed in the England Athletics Combined Event Championships in Bedford. setting a new personal best of 4279 points for 7th place overall which was a fine performance against the UK's top multi eventers. Katherine to date is now Wales number 1 multi eventer across all age groups form U17 to Seniors, very well done to Katherine. Click here for the full results.

Wednesday 29th May Swansea Harriers hosted the ever challenging Whitford Point Multi Terrain race at Llanmadoc Gower. 93 athletes made it to the finish around the very tough 5.9 mile route, very many congratulations to them all for finishing! The first 3 Swansea athletes home were Eamon Kirk (2nd), Ifan Lloyd (4th) and Raul Reismann (6th). Click here for the full results.

Wednesday 29th May was also round 2 of the Welsh Masters League at Swansea, we are awaiting these results.

Saturday 18th May U17W Olivia Gwynn running up an age group broke her own club record again for the U20W 2000m Steeplechase in the BMC PB Classic in Milton Keynes, this takes Olivia to the 9th in the UK Rankings for U20W to date, very well done, also running was U17M Jac Hopkins who set a fine time in the 3000m (8.27.69) to take him to 3rd in the UK rankings and quite close to a club record.  Click here for the full results.
