Results Round Up From Aberdare, Bedford, Yate & Swansea

Saturday 22nd June was round 2 of 3 in the Welsh U17, U20 & Senior League held at the newly refurbished track at Aberdare. There was a small turnout from the club, we are still unable to find league tables at time of posting, however we are fairly confident that the team are in the top three places in the league, giving them a fighting chance of retaining the league title in the final match at home in Swansea. At Aberdare individual highlights included overall top performer in each age group and event set by:

The weekend of Saturday 22nd & Sunday 23rd June saw the British U20 & U23 Championships held at Bedford. It was fantastic to see eleven Swansea Harriers were in action competing against the very best athletes in the UK
U23M Leon Greenwood progressed the 100m semi final placing 4th (11.00) and 4th in his 200m heat (21.65); U23M Callum Davies finished 5th in his 100m heat (11.42); U23W Hannah Brier made it all the way to the 100m final placing 6th (12.04); U23M Joseph Brier ran another very fast lifetime best over 400m (46.66) to place 4th in the final; U20M Steffan Jones placed 4th in his 400m heat (49.33); U23M Conor Smith was 9th in the 5000m Final (15.10.64); U23M Rhodri Williams was 7th in the 400m Hurdles Final (57.54) and U20M Jack Houghton set a lifetime best in the U20M 400m Heat in 4th (55.96); the main highlight was U23W Lauren Williams who won SILVER in the 400m Hurdles (59.13) well done Lauren!!; U23W Carys Jones was 11th in the Pole Vault (3.50m) and U20W Charlotte Campion 15th in the Triple Jump (10.75m). Sunday 23rd June saw our U13 & U15 team in round 3 of 3 of the Youth Development League at another newly refurbished track this time in Yate. The squad collectively put in another great team effort to win the third fixture as well as the first two rounds, thus guaranteeing themselves a spot in the UK semi/regional finals on Saturday 20th July. How good is this squad, good enough to place top two on 20th July and go all the way to the UK final? We think so, but so are the 5 other teams they will be up against, who are equally talented, its going to be a nail biter! At Yate individual highlights included A string wins for:
U15B Dylan Morgan (38.6) 300m; Zac Davies (11.9) 80m Hurdles; William Trott (3.70m) Pole Vault; George Snaith (46.51m) Javelin; Tom Attwood, William Trott, Zac Davies & Dylan Morgan (2.50.1) 4 x 300m.
U15G Sarah Lyons (4.96m) Long Jump; Holly Guite (2.40m) Pole Vault and Lucy Harris (22.87m) Discus.
U13B Evan Morris (5.01.7) 1500m; Drew Dodd (4.57m) Long Jump; Lewie Jones (8.73m) Shot & (25.62m) Javelin.
U13G Matilda Quick (1.37m) High Jump and Lily Ford (9.60m) Shot.

Sunday 23rd June was the Swansea Half Marathon, which had an huge turnout from our seniors with over 40 of them finishing the race in field of over 4500. Our top 5 finishers were:
Men: 2nd Joshua Griffiths (66.37); 16th Matthew Rees (76.00); 27th John Moran (77.25) and a lifetime best; 42nd James Dean (79.49) and 45th Ifan Lloyd (80.24).
Women: 4th Alaw Beynon-Thomas (80.57); 9th Rachel Davies (87.25); 15th Abigayle Goodrick-Latham (90.05) and a lifetime best; 21st Helen-Marie Davies (93.51) and a lifetime best; 27th Luticia Thomas (97.04) and 28th Llinos Jones (97.04).
