Results Round Up From All the Bs; Bedford, Brecon, Birmingham & Elsewhere

The weekend of the Saturday & Sunday 25th & 26th August were the England Athletics U15 & U17 championships held at Bedford. These are essentially the UK Championships as entries are open to other home nations UK athletes, subject to having achieved the tough entry criteria. This year Swansea Harriers had four athletes participating; U17W Macey Morris had the most successful weekend winning her 200m heat and placing an excellent 5th in the final in (25.16); U17M Steffan Jones placed 4th in his 400m heat (50.95); U17W Charlotte Campion was 10th in the triple jump with a best leap of (10.12m) and U17W Lara Spacey was 19th in the hammer with a throw of (39.17m). Saturday 25th August was the Welsh Inter Regional U15, U17 & U20/Senior Championships held at Brecon. Swansea Harriers were out in force most of whom were representing West Wales with a sprinkling from other regions. It proved to be a very successful day for the West Wales region having a clean sweep of all the trophies with plenty of help not only from our athletes but a few of our team managers and officials too. Individual highlights included overall winning performances from:
U20/SM Matthew Rees (8.59.34) 3000m; Eli Oneyewu (11.12) 100m & (22.43) 200m & (45.38) 4 x 100m; Rhodri Williams (45.38) 4 x 100m; Daniel Williams (1.85m) High Jump and Nathan James (62.78m) Javelin.

U17M Thomas Payne (11.06) 100m & (22.75) 200m & (45.67) 4 x 100m.

Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th August saw the British Masters Athletics Championships at Birmingham Alexander Stadium. Some of our senior club members competed under partially very cold, wet and windy conditions coming home with a 5 medal haul : Roderick Davies V60: 100m 6th (14.78s), 200m 4th (30.54s), LJ 4th 4.14m; Daphne Marler V70: won GOLD! with 100m (25.49s) and LJ (1.76m); Renate Prells V60: won GOLD! with Discus (19.60m), SILVER! with  Hammer (29.78m) and Weight Throw (11.39m), BRONZE! with Shot Putt (7.34m); Glyn Price V50: won GOLD! with Pole Vault (3.80m); Chris Pruski  V60: Javelin  5th (29.08m), Discus 12th (24.72m). Meanwhile elsewhere . . . .SM Kristian Jones wins the Aberdeen Half Marathon in a time of (66.35) almost 5 minutes ahead of the 2nd placed athlete. At the Llantwit Major 10K Sharon Leech has a great run for 2nd in (44.11) and is followed home by Deborah Matthews in 8th (51.54).
