Results Round Up From Amsterdam, Brecon x 2, Cardiff, Tenby & Ammanford

 Without doubt the highlight of the week was our very own Dewi Griffiths representing Great Britain & Northern Ireland at the European Athletics Championships in Amsterdam, Netherlands on Friday 8th July. Dewi excelled setting a lifetime best in the 10,000m to finish in 5th place and only a few seconds off the Bronze medal in a time of (28.28.55). Wednesday 6th July was the 3rd and final Welsh Schools Championships event of the season with the U14 & U16 NASUWT Schools teams cup and plate finals held at Brecon for the top 2 schools in each section form the Afan Nedd Tawe Cup match held back on 8th June at Swansea University. There were a number of Swansea Harriers athletes present representing their school teams. Highlights included no less than four all time championship records and overall winning performances from;

U14G Caitlin Gwyther (4.57.23) 1500m and a new championship record!; Carys Poole (11.20) 70m Hurdles and a new championship record!; Catrin Morgan (1.45m) High Jump and Jamie Holland (30.77m) Javelin.

U14B Rhidian Jenkins (12.43) 75m Hurdles & (10.19m) Triple Jump.

U16G Amber Evans (43.87) 300m; Eluned King (4.55.53) 1500m; Seren Wyatt (4.86m) Long Jump and a new championship record!; Rhian Evans (35.66m) Javelin and a new championship record!;

U16B Tristan James (11.83) 80m Hurdles; Luke McClymont (5.62m) Long Jump; Connor Evans (38.10m) Discus and Brynmor Clements (42.28m) Discus.

On the evening of Friday 9th July at Cardiff there was the night of endurance seeded 10,000m track races. The club had just the three competitors in Matthew Rees who was the 3rd fastest Welshman overall setting a life time best of (33.24.38) set in race 3 where he was joined by Ian Harris in 5th (33.57.66) and Paul Morgan in 12th (36.38.29) who also set a lifetime best. Sunday 10th July saw our U11, U13 & U15 team retain their title as Welsh Junior League West Division Champions at Brecon. The club would like to thank all of the couple of hundred athletes, coaches, team managers and officials who have contributed to this fine combined team achievement over the four fixtures, click here for the final league table, and we look forward to the team competing in the Welsh Grand Cup Final on Sunday 21st August in Newport. At Brecon there were over 100 athletes representing the club where individual highlights included another club record for Charlie Holland and overall winning performances from:

Sunday 10th July was the Tenby 10K, Half Marathon & Full Marathon races. In the 10K it was a comfortable win for Matthew Richards in a time of (35.28) which was also a lifetime best, Matthew was followed across the line by Patrick Jones (36.44) in 4th place. There were no members in the half marathon, however over the full marathon Matthew Rees was first home for the club in 10th place in (3.01.54) and was followed home by Raul Reismann (3.18.26) for 37th and Rebecca Bennett (3.42.36) for 108th. Sunday 10th July was the Ammanford 10K where it was a first and second by Christian Lovatt (31.47) and Joshua Griffiths (32.13) both having great runs, also breaking into the top 10 individuals was Wayne Bowen in 8th (38.20). Helen-Marie Davies had a superb run to win the ladies race in (43.35) and was followed home by Penny Kennedy (48.05) and Vanessa Harrigan (53.48) a little further back in the field.
