Results Round Up From (Ashleigh Road, Birmingham, Brecon, Cardiff, Lee Valley and Manchester)

After another exciting weekend of Swansea Harriers athletes in action all over the UK here is catch up of what happened;

Back in time a week first to Brecon on the 2nd March where the full PROVISIONAL results have now been released and it looks like both the Novice Boys and Girls have definitely done enough to hold onto 2nd place in their respective leagues, very many congratulations to all those athletes who supported the team throughout the winter their successes are very much deserved, all those athletes that represented the team in 3 or more of the 5 league fixtures will receive medals in due course. Individually on the day highlights included top 10 placings for Nathan Jones 4th Novice Boys, Eluned King 9th Novice Girls, Sam Martin 4th U13B and Elliot Lawrence 6th U13B. Individually over the whole season there were top 10 placings in the individuals league for Novice Boy 4th Nathan Jones, Novice Girls 3rd Eluned King and 8th Rosa Humphreys; U13 Boys 3rd Elilot Lawrence and 5th Sam Martin and special congratulations to Eamon Kirk who was top Masters 40+.

Saturday 9th March saw our Pole Vaulters travel to Sport City for Vault Manchetser, highlights included a top 3 placing for U20W Shannon Lee in 3rd (2.81m) and a new personal best for U17M Joshua Hollisey-Mclean in 6th (3.81m). Click here for the full results.

Sunday 10th March again in Manchester was the Trafford 10K where Non Stanford set an incredible time of 32.41 which takes her to number 1 in the UK rankings as well as 30th on the UK all time list and 3rd on the Welsh All Time Rankings list well done Non on such a great performance. Saturday 9th March saw the UK Inter Counties Cross Country Championships and World Cross Country Trials at Birmingham, and it was an exceptional performance from U17M Jac Hopkins who won yet again making it a clean sweep of all the UK Cross Challenge events this year, to win a UK cross country title is a very rare achievement indeed. Other athletes from Swansea Harriers representing the West Wales region were; SM Dewi Griffiths (81st); U20M Liam Lloyd had a strong run for 24th; equally as good was U15B Aran Rees in 28th; U13B Sam Martin was 136th and team mate Joseph Tobin in 246th; SW Andrea Whitcobme had another great run for 15th; U20W Jemima Osborn was 51st; U17W Olivia Gwynn had a great run for 17th followed in by team mates Lara Philippart in 44th and Elin Davies in 55th. Sunday 10th March was the U20 Wales V England Indoor Athletics International at Cardiff; very many congratulations to all those athletes who made it into the Welsh team, the main highlight of the day was for U17W Hannah Brier competing against the best U20W England had to offer she still won the 60m in a time of (7.58); Sion Roberts was 3rd in the guest 200m (23.30); Miles Keller-Jenkins was 4th in the High Jump (1.86m); Catrin Jones 3rd in the High Jump (1.65m); Lewis Preece 4th in the Pole Vault (4.00m); Caitlin Atkins 3rd in the pole Vault (2.85m); Erin Walters 4th in the Long Jump (5.23m) and Awen Rosser 4th in Shot (11.69m); lots of very strong performances and some great experience of international competition gained which will be of great use in the years to come. Saturday 9th & Sunday 10th March were the British Masters Indoor Athletics Championships at Lee Valley, London the club had just the one athlete participating and it was our eldest too Hubert Daniels in the over 80's 60m, it was a straight final for Hubert and he had a solid run for 4th just missing out on a medal in a time of (11.84). Thursday 7th March was the West Glamorgan Primary Schools County final for the top individuals and top schools teams from each of the 8 clusters in the county. We are awaiting full results however we do have the top 3 individual and team results;

Boys Individuals: 1st Jacob (Glyncollen), 2nd Nathan Jones (Whitestone), 3rd Ben Petherbridge (Gowerton).

Girls Individuals: 1st Eluned King (Brynymor), 2nd Molly Jones (Twyn), 3rd Rebecca Martin (Pontlliw).

Boys Teams: 1st St Jospehs Clydach (65pts), 2nd Newton (68pts), 3rd Pen Y Fro (88pts).

Girls Teams: 1st Pontlliw (29pts), 2nd Twyn (85pts), 3rd Newton (95pts).

Any athletes that finished in the top 20 individual places must forward their selection letters ASAP to Mr. J Reed at St Josephs Primary School Clydach, confirming their availability to compete against the Dyfed Primary Schools team at Llandeilo in the British Schools and Home Countries cross country international on Saturday 23rd March.
