Results Round Up From Bedford, Birmingham, Swansea & Tenby

Saturday 30th & Sunday 31st July saw the CAU Inter-County Championships incorporating the England Athletics Senior Championships at Bedford. The club has three athletes participating; many congratulations to Rachel Johncock who won GOLD in the SW 100m in a time of (11.37) unfortunately it won’t count as a club record as the following wind speed was illegal. Joseph Brier progressed to the semi finals of the 400m finishing 4th in (48.49) and Sullivan Smith finished 10th in the 3000m (9.32.23). Well done to all three, click here for the full results.

 

Saturday 30th & Sunday 31st July saw the British Masters Athletics Federation Decathlon & Heptathlon and the Throws Pentathlon Championships held at Birmingham, where the club had three athletes present and performing to very high standards! Practicing what they preach in the M70+ was club throws coach Ian Bowles with BRONZE in the throws only Pentathlon (2668pts), and fellow clubs throws coach M60 Renate Prells coming home with GOLD in the womens throws only Pentathlon (2710pts), and finally club stalwart and ever present M50 Glyn Price in the full decathlon come home with a BRONZE medal scoring (5163pts). Very many congratulations to all three showing that form is temporary but class is permanent! No doubt we will see all three in action again in Swansea in the Masters League on Wednesday 10th August. Sunday 31st July saw the Welsh Athletics U17, U20 & Seniors League Cup Final held at Swansea. It was a hugely successful day for the club winning the league title! There were over 60 athletes out competing for the club which was great to see in the school holiday season! Very many thanks to the team managers in getting such large teams out, to all the athletes who were there and those too who competed in the preceding 3 league matches to qualify and as ever all the clubs coaches and officials, a superb all round team performance!

Highlights on the day included overall winning performances from:

SM Rhys Granville (50.82) 400m; Danal Desta (4.03.20) 1500m & (8.30.50) 3000m; Nathan Phillips (60.85) 400m Hurdles and Matthew Richards (4.56.87) 1500m Steeplechase.

SW Donna Jones (28.17) 200m; Katherine Morris (15.76) 100m Hurdles; Caryl Granville (60.04) 400m Hurdles; Jordan Meek, Katherine Morris, Ellie D’Auria & Sophie Roberts (52.45) 4 x 100m; Caroline Hurley (3.69m) Long Jump; Sian Swanson (11.15m) Triple Jump; Awen Rosser (12.73m) Shot and Jo Davis (25.28m) Javelin.

Sunday 31st July was the Tenby 10K where Marc Hobbs had a comfortable victory by over a minute in (33.03) and having an equally impressive run in 2nd was Matthew Harvey in (34.16) and they were followed home by Nick Mackay (38.52) in 14th.
