Results Round Up From Birmingham, Swansea, Chepstow & Elsewhere

The weekend of Saturday & Sunday 24th & 25th August were the senior British Championships incorporating the trials for the World Athletics Championships at Birmingham. It was great to see seven Swansea Harriers competing against the very best athletes in the UK. Thanks to all those who wore their club kit too, the juniors in the club get very excited when they see them in the same kit on TV! It was a weekend of mixed fortunes for the squad, here’s how they all got on.
After winning her heat, Risqat Fabunmi-Alade placed 4th in the 100m semi final (11.96). Unfortunately Joseph Brier false started in his 400m heat. Verity Ockenden had an awesome run for 4th in the 5000m (15.41.75) just behind some of the super stars of UK endurance running. Dai Greene showed that he’s still got it, placing 2nd in the 400m Hurdles final (49.67) he has until 1st September to fins another (0.37) to guarantee selection for the World Athletics Championships. Unfortunately Caryl Granville didn’t finish her 400m hurdles heat, however Lauren Williams ran a great (59.78) just missing out on a place in the final. Jonathan Hopkins had a great run for 5th in the 3000m steeplechase in (8.53.66). Megan Stratton-Thomas placed 9th in the 5000m Walk (31.19.59). 
 
 
Sunday 25th August at home in Swansea was the conclusion of the junior track & field league season with the Welsh U11 U13 & U15 League Cup Final for the top eight junior clubs in Wales. The team went out with a bang retaining their title from last year, winning by a margin of over 70 points, with two club records broken too! Our thanks not only to the athletes who showed great team spirit on the day filling as many gaps in the team as possible, but also to all those who were part of the team in the four qualifying fixtures. These age groups have great strength in depth, especially the field events. Individual highlights included overall winning performances set by:
 
U15B William Trott (4.00m) Pole Vault; Dylan Morgan (5.43m) Long Jump; George Snaith (44.13m) Javelin; Joseph Beresford (1.70m) High Jump; 
 
U15G Millie Carter (3.15m) Pole Vault, which was also a new all time club record, well done Millie!; Chloe Jones (32.97m) Javelin; Lucy Harris (23.68m) Discus; 
 
U13B Lewie Jones (27.84m) Discus & (33.90m) Javelin, which is also a new all time club record, well done Lewie!
 
U13G Lola Mitchell, Ffion Clarke, Olivia Mackey & Zoe Strevens (55.49) 4 x 100m; Carys Morgan (20.57m) Javelin; Ruby Jones (1.45m) High Jump; Lily Ford (9.36m) Shot;

Sunday 25th August at Chepstow was the unique Severn Bridge 10km and Half Marathon where over the 10km race, John Moran had a great run for 5th in (36.37); SW Rachel Davies had a superb run to win the womens race in (39.40) followed home by 6th Llinos Jones (43.40). In the Half Marathon Matthew Rees had a superb run too placing 2nd (73.41); Joe Tucker was 78th (95.32) and Rob Falconer (1.41.41) in 141st.
 
 
Sunday 25th August at the Cardiff to Pentath Half Marathon SM Gabrielius Stuokus finishes in 21st (99.08) just after running the mile in (5.30) placing 6th, a busy day!
 
 
Meanwhile elsewhere………..U20M Kaya Cairney runs (51.8) over 400m at Par. SM Kristian Jones runs (13.57.39) over 5000m in Dublin.
