Results Round Up From Brecon, Bedford, Llantwit Major & the Severn Bridge

Saturday 27th August saw the Welsh Inter Regional U15 to Senior Championships held at Brecon, in a great days athletics the West Region retained their title showing that West is best! The West Wales team were helped to the title by plenty of Swansea Harriers athletes, there were also a number of our members present representing the South, East & North regions. Very many thanks to all the athletes, team managers and officials from all clubs in the West that combined forces for this great result. Highlights included overall winning performances from Swansea Harriers athletes in:

U20M Callum Davies (11.13) 100m; U15B Tyler Cook (11.85) 80m Hurdles; U17M Tomos Slade (14.22) 100m Hurdles; SW Caryl Granville (14.61) 100m Hurdles & (59.70) 400m Hurdles; SM Nathan Phillips (62.75) 400m Hurdles; U17W Megan Stratton-Thomas (4.40.60) 1000m Walk; U17M Iwan Beggs (1.75m) High Jump; U17M Ieuan Hosgood (3.30m) Pole Vault; U15B Steffan Jones (2.60m) Pole Vault; SW Sian Swanson (11.39m) Triple Jump; SM Peter Maitland (12.53m) Shot; SW Awen Rosser (12.25m) Shot & (42.17m) Discus and Jamie Holland (32.76m) Javelin. The weekend of Saturday 27th & Sunday 28th August were the England Athletics U15 & U17 Championships held at Bedford where it was fantastic to see five of our juniors reach the tough entry standards and compete against the best juniors from throughout the UK. All five performed excellently against some really tough opposition: U15G Mollie Jones progressed all the way to the final of the 1500m finishing 9th in (4.46.08); Dominic Smith set a lifetime best of (8.49.00) to place 6th in the 3000m final, just behind was friend and training partner Elliot Lawrence in 12th (8.59.95); U15B Tristan James reached the final of the 80m Hurdles placing 5th (11.70); and finally, after traveling from Brecon the day before Megan Stratton-Thomas broke her own all time club record for the 5000m Walk setting a time of (27.29.35) to win SILVER!! Meanwhile elsewhere; On Sunday 28th August Phil Matthews had a great run to win the Severn Bridge half Marathon in a time of (1.14.42) and Robert Prady was 11th in the Llantwit Major 10K on Saturday 27th August in (41.38).
