Sunday 21st August was the inaugural Port Talbot Harriers Half Marathon in Afan Argoed Country Pack, the course was hilly but was set in spectacular scenery and we hope to see this event repeated again next year. There were 14 Swansea harriers in action with highlights including 5 men making the top 10: Ian Harris had a comfortable victory by 4 minutes in (73.44) and was followed across the line by Matthew Rees in 2nd (78.21); Eamonn Kirk in 4th (81.04); Thomas Guest in 6th (82.32) and Mike Evans in 9th (85.32); Vanessa Harrigan was our sole female competitor finishing 92nd (1.53.96). Sunday 21st August was the U11, U13 & U15 Welsh League Cup Final at Newport where after such a great league season the team fell at the final hurdle and finished a disappointing distant 3rd behind the two Cardiff teams, this is frustrating for all the great efforts of the athletes present and team managers and coaches in trying to field full teams, with so many gaps in the team it was an impossible task to be more competitive in challenging for the title. Remember that Swansea Harriers is a competitive club and athletes must make every effort to compete when requested please. Very many thanks to all those athletes that took part at Newport, individually there were many excellent performances and our thanks to all the team managers, officials and coaches who have contributed to the team ethos this season. Special congratulations to Carys Poole who broke her own all time Welsh Record for 70m Hurdles into a headwind with a time of (11.13), unfortunately there were no wind gauges in the Long jump so her leap of (4.86m) wont count as a club record and was only 3cm off the all time Welsh record. Highlights at Newport included overall winning performances from:

U11G Leni Beard (3.81m) Long Jump

U13B Sam Petherbridge (28.07) 200m and Aron Williams (10.39m) Shot & (28.67m) Discus.

U13G Maddie Draycott (6.03.5) 1000m walk; Carys Poole (11.13) 70m Hurdles & (4.86m) Long Jump;  Ella Evans (1.35m) High Jump and Chloe Jones (20.13m) Javelin.

U15B Tyler Cook (11.92) 80m Hurdles.
