Sunday 26th May saw our U17 & U20 team make the long trip to Exeter for round 2 of 3 in the Youth Development League. After the great start to round 1 it was great to see so many athletes out for their team mates again, most of whom did several events each. This time in a closely fought match the team placed 4th. Going into the 3rd and final round in June we are tied with 8 league points with two other teams, very exciting if you’re a neutral but not good for your blood pressure if you’re a team manager! The team have done superbly well this season and have given themselves a fighting chance of progressing to the regional final which they haven’t done for a very long time. Individual highlights at Exeter included A string wins for:
U20W Gwennan Lewis (11.13m) Shot; U17M Thomas Payne (11.02) 100m & (22.38) 200m; U17M Owain Clarke (59.97) 400m Hurdles; U17W Macey Morris (25.54) 200m & (45.13) 300m Hurdles and U17W Darcie Bass (5.11.26) 1500m. Thanks again to the entire squad, team managers, officials and coaches on such a great effort. Click here for the full results and click here for the very close league table.
A new initative this year is recognising and rewarding those athletes who make a significant contribution to their team. Therefore bleated congratulations goes to U17W Jamie Holland & U17M Thomas Payne pictured above for their points haul to the team total in round 1 at Swansea.
