Results Round Up From Cardiff & Glasgow

Saturday 30th September were the somewhat sparsely attended Welsh Mile Road Championships & Open Races & British Masters Mile Races at Cardiff. Nevertheless there were some fantastic runs around the Cardiff Civic Centre, with highlights including medal winning performances from;
3 GOLD U13G Tiffany Rees (5.40); U17W Mollie Jones (5.26) and MW40+ Helen-Marie Davies (5.58)
3 SILVER U13G Ella Davies (5.52); SM Jonathan Tobin (4.19) and MW50+ Penny Kennedy (6.27)
2 BRONZE U17W Bronwen Stratton-Thomas (5.38) and MM40+ Charles Walsh (TBC).

Sunday 1st October around 25,000 runners lined up at the start of the Cardiff Half Marathon, where without doubt the main highlight for Swansea Harriers was a scintillating run by Dewi Griffiths setting a lifetime best of (61.32) which takes him to 2nd on the welsh all time rankings for half marathon, just ahead of retired club member Nigel Adams in 3rd. Very many congratulations to Dewi who placed 4th in Cardiff, and thanks for wearing the club vest too, which is a great inspiration for all our members particularly the juniors who watched him at Cardiff or live on the BBC! Just behind Dewi was our other endurance superstar also wearing the club vest, Joshua Griffiths who had a superb run too placing 19th in (65.38), our third runner home was Phil Matthews who was going so quick got on the live BBC coverage more than a few times too wish Dewi & Josh finishing in 25th (67.14) as the first MM35+ home, making up our top 5 males were Ian Harris in 48th (74.22) and other super master Ifan Lloyd finishing as the 1st MM55+ and 108th overall in (79.05).
In the ladies having a storming run for 6th female and 56th overall was the very talented GB&NI international Caryl Jones (75.24); just one place behind in 7th and 117th overall was Commonwealth Games athlete Elinor Kirk (79.22); our 3rd female back across the line was Alaw Beynon-Thomas in (81.32) which was our 3rd female runner in top 10 placing in 9th and 154th overall; fourth home was brand new club member Claire Bunce in 25th and 336th overall (87.20), our fifth runner home was Elinors big sister Sian Kirk in 38th and 526th overall (90.08).The full results show over 30 Swansea Harriers taking part, very many congratulations to them all, where there were plenty of season and lifetime bests set in wet and windy conditions amongst them all. Also on Sunday 1st October Kristain Jones was running the Scottish Half Marathon at Glasgow, and achieved yet another great time to finish a magnificent 4th in a lifetime best of (66.11), well done!
