Results Round Up From Cardiff x 2, Margam Park & Glasgow

Saturday 1st October was the Welsh 1 Mile Road Race Championships at Cardiff, there were only a handful of our juniors present as they are still on their end of season break from track & field, however the quantity was low but the quality was high! In the U11G Mai Davies placed 4th (7.00) and was followed across the line by Bethany Morgan in 6th (7.32); U13G Tiffany Rees was 5th (5.59) and Ffion Hennessy 13th (7.15); U15G Darcie Bass was the main highlight winning BRONZE in (5.39) and our sole male competitor was U15B Nathan Jones in 4th (4.55). Sunday 2nd October was the Cardiff Half Marathon with almost 30 of our seniors in action in perfect weather conditions amongst the 17,000 runners taking part there were plenty of great results and personal bests, No doubt the main highlight was an 8th place for Dewi Griffiths the first British athlete to finish hot on the heels of the Kenyans setting a lifetime best of (63.27), having some superb runs too just behind Dewi were; 13th Joshua Griffiths (66.43); 26th Matthew Rees in a lifetime best of (71.04); 33rd Phil Matthews (72.09) and 47th Ian Harris (74.47) all breaking into the top 100 finishers! We only had the three runners in the ladies Rebecca Bennett (1.42.05); Christine Webb (1.44.23) and Naomi Osborn (2.01.04) but all three had great runs. Monday 3rd October saw the Apollo Teaching Services, Afan Nedd Tawe Secondary Schools & Colleges Cross Country Development Runs at Margam Park, in perfect weather conditions there was a great turnout from the schools and highlights included Swansea Harriers members breaking into the top three placings from:
Year 7G: 1st Tiffany Rees (Olchfa); 2nd Nia Bailey-Jones (Bishopston) 7 3rd Ella Davies (Gwyr).
Year 7B: 1st Elliot Harris (Bishopston).
Year 8&9G: 1st Darcie Bass (Penyrheol).
Year 8&9B: 2nd Charlie Holland (Bishopston)
Year 10 to 14G: 2nd Bronwen Stratton-Thomas (Olchfa) & 3rd Freya Reese (Bishopston).
Year 10 to 14B: 2nd Nathan Jones (Bishopston).

Meanwhile elsewhere . . . .  Jonathan Hopkins sets a lifetime best over 10km to win the great Scottish 10K in (30.21) at Glasgow on Saturday 2nd October, another of our runners knocking on the door to break the sub 30 minute barrier, well done Jonathan.
