Wednesday 21st June was the Afan Nedd Tawe Secondary Schools U14 & U16 Cup Match held at Swansea University in 30 degree heat!!! Firstly thanks to all the volunteers officials and teachers who were out in the very hot sun all day. Saturday 24th June was the Welsh Schools & Clubs Combined Event Championships held at home in Swansea. It proved to be a successful day for the club with plenty of individual and team medals won.
Highlights included our highest 3 placed athletes in each section being:
U17M: It was a fine win for Tomos Slade (Cwmtawe) scoring 3126 points to win individual GOLD and team GOLD with Ben Petherbridge (Gowerton) who was well placed 4th individually on (2379 points); making his debut for the club was 6th placed Stephen Jenkins on (2241 points).
U17W we had no representatives.
U15B: Charlie Holland (Bishopston) won BRONZE scoring (2326 points) and Charlie H won team BRONZE with Charlie Brown (Gowerton) who scored (1991 points) in 7th. Sam Petherbridge (Olchfa) was in 9th with (1905 points).
U15G It was double GOLD for Carys Poole (Gwyr) individually she scored (2226 points) and also won team GOLD with individual SILVER medalist Jamie Holland (Gwyr) (2098 points) and Elin Murphy (Bishopston) placed 26th on (1627 points).
U13B Zac Davies (Cwmtawe) won BRONZE with a score of (1202 points), with Dylan Morgan our next best placed U13B in 7th with (1090 points) and Oliver Clarkson in 9th on (661 points).
U13G Freya Morgan just missed out on a medal scoring (1473 points) to place 4th. Melissa Davies was 8th (1343 points) and Sarah Lyons 9th (1194 points).
U11B it was GOLD for Reuben De Vall (1369 points); SILVER for Dylan Stapley (1230 points) and 4th for Drew Dodd (1146 points).
U11G there was a clean sweep of the podium places with a GOLD medal for Carys Morgan (1323 points); SILVER for Amy Beynon (1063 points) and BRONZE for Neve Dodd (1051 points).
Our thanks to all those pupils who represented the Afan Nedd Tawe School District, and we look forward to all those primary school pupils present representing the district over the up coming seasons.
 
Sunday 25th June at Cardiff was the 3rd and final round of the U17 & U20 Youth Development League, where the team finished 5th out of the 6 teams. The match was a bit of a dead rubber for the team as it was more or less decided before the match that they would be in the South & West Area Promotion match on Sunday 23rd July at Newport. To avoid relegation from the top flight it is vital that all U17 & U20 athletes make the effort to support their club and team mates at that fixture please. Our thanks to all the athletes that made it to Cardiff, as well as the team managers and officials. Individually highlights included overall A string victories for: U20M Rhys Harris (15.66) 110m Hurdles; U20M Nathan James (61.33m) Javelin; U20M Eli Onyewu, Cameron Ciaburri, Rhys Harris & Tomos Slade (44.18) 4 x 100m; U17M Nathan Jones (9.34.12) 3000m; U17M Tomos Slade (14.13) 100m Hurdles; U17M Ieuan Hosgood (3.70m) Pole Vault; U20W Lauren Williams (57.00) 400m & (60.82) 400m Hurdles; U20W Mia Evans (15.33) 100m Hurdles; U20W Rachel Jones (32.60) Javelin; U17W Bronwen Stratton-Thomas (5.39.55) 1500m Steeplechase and U17W Charlotte Campion (10.78m) Triple Jump. Sunday 25th June was the Swansea Half Marathon and our senior distance runners were out in force on their home patch. Our first 5 men and ladies to cross the line were:
Men: It was another course record and victory for Dewi Griffiths (64.49) who was followed home by 4th Danal Desta (68.45); 5th Phil Matthews (68.55); 9th Ian Harris (72.12) and 12th Matthew Rees (74.31).
Women: 30th overall and 3rd female was Caryl Jones (77.52); 285th Iona Evans (93.58); 351st Diane Brownhill (95.29); 438th Rebecca Bennett (97.18) and 571st Penny Kennedy (99.54).
It was fantastic to see such a successful mass participation event at Swansea and to see so many of the runners in their Swansea vests. Very many congratulations to all those who ran, click here for the full results.
 
Meanwhile elsewhere . . . . . . Josh Griffiths finished 13th in the Hamburg Half Marathon in Germany in a time of (65.53) on Sunday 25th June. At the Watford BMC Grand Prix on Saturday 24th June season and or personal best performances came from U23M Jack Gooch (3.48.90) 1500m; SM Paul Tobin (3.55.23) and U20W Cari Hughes (4.24.86) 1500m. Sunday 25th June SW Caryl Granville broke her own all time club record at Lockern, Belgium with a superb time of (13.57) over 100m Hurdles – well done Caryl!
