Results Round Up From Chia ITALY, Athlone IRELAND, Brecon, Cardiff, Telford & Merthyr Mawr

It was another busy and exciting weekend for our members! Without doubt the main highlight was team GOLD for Dewi Griffiths representing the Great Britain & Northern Ireland team at the European Cross Country Championships on Sunday 11th December at Chia in Italy. Against a world class field shown live on the BBC Dewi had a superb run to finish 18th in the individuals, and help take team GOLD for GB&NI!! Also in international athletics action on Sunday 10th December were Michael Thompson and Josie Sivak both who had been selected to represent Wales U18 in the British Schools Indoor Combined Events Pentathlon in Athlone Ireland. Michael also has the distinction of being the Wales captain for the day, and both he and Josie performed excellently against some top class opposition. Michael placed 11th overall and set lifetime bests in the Long Jump (6.45m) and 800m of (2.19.25) on route to amassing 3208 points over the 5 disciplines which was also a lifetime best. Saturday 10th December was the Welsh Inter Regional Cross Country Championships at a very wet Brecon. It was fantastic to see so many Swansea Harriers selected to represent the West Wales Region. Highlights included medal winning runs from; 3 GOLD medals came from U15B Nathan Jones, SM Jonathan Tobin and SW Alaw Beynon-Thomas. 3 SILVER medals were won by U15G Caitlin Gwyther and U17M Dominic Smith; 4 BRONZE medals were won by U15G Eluned King, SM Matt Rees, U17M Elliot Lawrence and W35+ Helen Marshall. With team medals up for grabs for 3 of the 4 regions in each race there were plenty of team successes too. Click here for the full results.

Sunday 11th December was the extremely challenging Merthyr Mawr Christmas Pudding Multi Terrain race. A number of our senior members ran in this as well as the Inter Regional Championships so had a tiring weekend indeed! Matt Rees was one of those running again, having another great run to come home in 2nd; Eamonn Kirk was 13th, Raul Reismann 20th; Nick Mackay 21st and Paul Flynn 24th to be our first 5 male runners home. In the ladies there were just the 2 runners, Rebecca Bennett another of those who ran Saturday, was first home in 12th and was followed across the line by Hannah Johnston in 35th. Sunday 11th December was the Cardiff Metropolitan University Indoor Athletics Christmas Classic open meeting. There were a handful of our members in action. Highlights included overall top 3 placings for; SM Wyn Roberts finishing 2nd in the 60m final (6.94) and an equally impressive victory dressed as Father Christmas in the 60m "Santa Dash" (7.12)!;  3rd Osaze Aghedo (6.41m) Long Jump; brand new member SW Katie-Jane Priest (7.79) for 2nd in the 60m final and with 2 victories SW Caryl Granville 1st (1.31.86) 600m & 1st (8.56) 60m Hurdles. Well done to them all, click here for the full results. Outside of the top 3 but in a very high class field Joshua Griffiths set a superb time and lifetime best of (8.11.98) in the 3000m.

Sunday 11th December Elinor Kirk won the ladies race in the Telford 10K with a road lifetime best of (32.35) this takes her to 3rd in the UK rankings for 2016, well done Eli!!!
