Friday 10th November was the British Schools Indoor Combined Events U16 & U18 International at Glasgow. Swansea Harriers just had the one athletes make the team this year to represent Wales; U16G Carys Poole (YG Gwyr) who was bottom of the age group. Carys performed extremely well, despite carrying an ankle injury through the entire 5 events, against some top class opposition eventually placing 15th with a total of 2861 points gained from her (9.68) 60m Hurdles; (1.41m) High Jump; (4.84m) Long Jump; (8.27m) Shot and (2.34.97) 800m. Very well done to Carys on her first international call up, click here for the full results.
Saturday 11th November was round 2 of 5 in the cross country league for all age groups held at a very muddy Brecon! There was a great turnout from the club, especially in the U11B with lots of new members making their club debuts. Our thanks to all those who were out representing the club and to all our team managers who got them all there. With 5 to score in the seniors and 4 to score in the juniors, were as follows:
Senior Men: wow – the first 4 across the line were all from Swansea Harriers! Dewi Griffiths has had a great couple of weeks, being voted European Athletics athlete of the month for October and being added to the UK Athletics funded athletes programme for athletes with Olympic potential. Dewi crossed the line first to take the win and was followed home by 2nd Jonathan Tobin, 3rd Phil Matthews and 4th Marc Hobbs with our 5th and final scorer in 12th Paul Tobin, this awesome team performance takes the team to the top of division 1.
Senior Women: another athlete in great form is Alaw Beynon-Thomas who won the ladies race comfortably; Alaw was followed home by Vicky Jackson having a great run for 4th; Helen Marshall in 14th; Sian Kirk in 42nd and Diane Brownhill in 56th. The team is very well placed in 2nd in the league.
In the junior sections there was a great turnout too, especially in the U11B with 27 (yes 27) runners, most of whom were making their club debut appearance for us in any event discipline, they all gave it a great go and our 4 scorers for the A team were: 19th Jenson Morris; 30th Charlie Shuall; 34th Ben Griffiths and 39th Louis Shuall.
