Glasgow Welsh Masters Internationals
Saturday 12th November was the British & Irish Masters Cross Country International at Glasgow. The club currently has a rich vein of masters endurance athletes at this time as is reflected in the number of Swansea Harriers who made the team. In the womens 6km we had 4 internationals; Helen Marshall was first home in 53rd in 18th V35; Helen Marie Davies was 73rd overall and 14th V40; Penny Kennedy was 132nd and 18th V50 and Sian Phillips 159th and 19th V55. Whilst in the mens 8km for V35 to V45, former club member and Commonwealth Games steeplechaser Donald Naylor was 11th overall and 1st V45; Eamonn Kirk was 61st and 18th V45; Paul Flynn 83rd and 28th V45 and Jos Jones 88th and 30th V35. In the mens V50+ 8km Thomas Guest placed 49th overall and 27th V50 and Kneath Philippart 57th and 18th V55. In addition there was an open womens 6km where Diane Brownhill finished in 8th overall and 1st V40. Very well done to them all to have to have 12 masters internationals from one club is a fantastic achievement and a reflection of all the great work that goes on every Tuesday and Thursday with the seniors endurance groups. Sunday 13th November was the 2nd league match for all age groups in the cross country league at Brecon, as you can see from the race reports above with so many talented athletes unavailable due to other events our teams were not at full strength, nevertheless the club has great strength in depth and there were still many great team and individual results. Many thanks to all those who ran and the team managers for coordinating them all. With our first 5 seniors and first 4 juniors to cross the line as scorers for the A teams, here’s how they all got on:
Senior Men: Marc Hobbs had a great run for 4th, following him home were 8th Angus Maclean; 13th Phil Matthews; 35th Matthew Richards and 62nd Matthew Gurmin. The team are well placed in 2nd in the league.
Senior Women: Alaw Beynon-Thomas had an incredible run to finish in 1st place!!! Alaw was followed across the line by Bethan Maclean who is yet to join the club, but we are working on it so wont score any points this time! And Victoria Jackson was 16th, with only the two scoring athletes the team remain routed to the bottom of the league table, despite disappointingly their points from the first match still missing.
U17M: First home was Chris Packham in 12th , followed across the line by Sam Martin in 14th and brand new member Martin Powell in 18th, the team are doing well in 4th in the league just outside of the medals.
U17W: at the time of typing the team scores are visible with the team placed 9th in the league, the individual results are missing.
U15B: all on his own was William Arnold placing 40th, the team are down in 11th place in the league.
