Results Round Up Including 3 club records, from Llanelli, Aberavon, California USA, Swansea, Birmingham, Basingstoke and Llanelli

Wednesday 3rd May was round 2 of 3 in the U11 & U13 Triangular series V Llanelli V Neath @ Llanelli. The team kept up their fine form to win the 2nd match in a row and extend their lead at the top of the league. Very many thanks to all the athletes who attended and to all the volunteers from all three clubs. Individually highlight included overall winning performances from:
U11B Reuben De Vall (11.1) 75m & (1.15m) High Jump and Nathaniel Osborne (5.66m) Shot.
U11G Olivia Mackey (11.6) 75m; Kaitlyn Jones (3.04.0) 800m; Amy Beynon (1.10m) High Jump and Catrin Edwards (5.05m) Shot.
U13B Josh Kenny (14.3) 100m; Christian Garcia (2.42.8) 800m and Max Thomas (1.25m) High Jump.
U13G Chloe Jones (29.19m) Javelin.
Wednesday 3rd May was the Aberavon Seafront 5K Series at Port Talbot. In a great event it was 1st and 2nd for the club with Ian Harris crossing the line first in (16.00) followed by Michael Bryant in (17.17), Paul Flynn was home next in 6th (17.56) and our top 3 ladies were; 38th Helen-Marie Davies (20.48); 47th Penny Kennedy (21.33) and 49th Christine Webb (21.55). Friday 5th May Dewi Griffiths achieved a Commonwealth Games A standard over 10,000m finishing in a time (28.16.07) for 14th place in the Paton Jordan Invitational at Palo Alto, California, USA! Well done Dewi! Dewi will now be strongly considered for selection for the Commonwealth Games in Australia!!Also at Palo Alto, Elinor Kirk had a great run too and finished 13th in the 5000m in (16.06.87).
Friday 5th May was the Swansea Harriers School Year 7 Trophy match at Swansea, YG Gwyr won the boys and Bishopston the girls, with Bishopston coming out on top overall, many thanks and well done to the 7 schools who supported the event. Highlights included overall winning performances from Swansea Harriers athletes representing their school teams by:

U13B William Trott (13.0) 75m Hurdles & (4.59m) Long Jump; Joshua Aka (12.4) 100m; Josh Kenny (27.8) 200m; Elliot Riordan (1.40m) High Jump; James Tune (5.36.6) 1500m*; Luc Gode (9.32m) Shot; *=James & Luc took early retirement from athletics last year, we hope to see them coming out of retirement soon! Saturday 6th May saw our Senior Women open up their season in round 1 of 3 in the Premier Division of the UK Womens Athletics League against the top 8 clubs teams in the UK at Birmingham. They had yet another superb result to finish 5th against some really tough opposition. Very well done to the entire team, many of whom like the mens doubled or even trebled up on their events to support the team thank you. Individually highlights included overall winning performances from; Verity Ockenden (2.09.11) 800m; Caryl Granville (58.59) 400m Hurdles; and the 4 x 400m (3.44.24) Olivia Caesar, Bethany Close, Laura Maddox & Caryl Granville which was an all time club record, well done girls!!!! Click here for the full results.
Saturday 6th May after promotion to Division 1 of the British Mens Athletics League saw our senior men in action of round 1 of at Basingstoke. The team excelled themselves at the higher level competition level to finish 2nd just 2 points behind match winners Cardiff. The level of competition was so tough there were no A string victories, however 2 all time club records were set: Osaze Aghedo broke both the U20M & SM club record for Triple Jump with a leap of (15.12m) bang on the legal wind reading of 2.0mps and brand new member Adam King set a distance of (61.31m) for a record in the Hammer, very many congratulations to the both of them!! There were a number of 2nd place finishes in the A string events; Joseph Brier (48.22) 400m; Jonathan Tobin (1.53.23) 800m & (3.57.92) 1500m; Guy Smith (8.23.41) 3000m and the 4 x 100m (42.50) Glen Elsdon, Sam Ige, Michael Wilson & Wyn Roberts. Sunday 7th May were the Great Welsh Half and Full Marathons at Llanelli, where in the full Marathon there was a win for one of our London super starts Matthew Rees in (2.50.02) and the only other Swansea Harrier was Sam Joseph in 26th (3.33.18). In the half marathon we had just the 3 finishers but it was another one-two on the podium for Ian Harris having a fine victory in (1.11.46) followed across the line by Ross Simpson in 2nd (1.18.20) and our 3rd runner home was John Breslin in 16th (1.32.52).
