Results Round Up From Lee Valley, Sheffield, Loughborough, Cwmbran & Inverness

Back on Sunday 4th March was the England Masters Inter Area Match at Lee Valley, London where it was great to see 6 of our masters athletes selected for Wales. Running down a few age groups the versatile MM50+ Robin Wood was up against the MM35s+ across six different events, and was 5th in the 60m (8.34), 5th 200m (29.65), 5th 2000m Walk (14.58.57) & 5th (1.20m) High Jump; & 3rd (4.43m) Long Jump & (9.46m) Triple Jump; MM60+ Roderick Davies was 3rd in the 200m (29.85) and 2nd (4.10m) Long Jump  & 4th (6.93m) Shot.;  MM50+ Paul Flynn placed 5th in the 800m (2.27.20) and 3rd in the 1500m (4.55.61) & (13.35.90) 2000m Walk; MW40+ Helen-Marie Davies was 4th in the 1500m (5.28.70); brand new member MW35+ Llinos Jones was 2nd over 3000m (10.46.01) and MM50+ Glyn Price was 4th in the 60m Hurdles (10.77) 4th (1.45m) High Jump and was our sole event winner at Lee Valley with a (3.80m) Pole Vault. The weekend of Saturday 10th & Sunday 11th March were the England (UK) and Welsh U15 & U17 Indoor Athletics Combined Event Championships held at Sheffield. Swansea Harriers had two athletes participating: U15G Carys Poole who amassed 3004 points in the pentathlon to win Welsh GOLD and place 6th overall on route setting a lifetime best in the High Jump (1.44m) and Shot (9.51m). U17W Jamie Holland placed 5th in the Welsh Championships and 34th overall with 2445 points setting lifetime bests in the 60m Hurdles (11.14) and Shot (11.73m). The weekend of Saturday 10th & Sunday 11th March saw our Masters athletes in action again, this time a in the British Masters Indoor Athletics Championships at Lee Valley, London. The club had just the 4 athletes participating where; MM60+ Roderick Davies placed 6th in the 60m Final (8.96) & 4th in the 200m (29.39) & 5th Long Jump (4.05m); MW70+ it was treble Silver for  Daphne Marler won 60m SILVER (14.16) & Long Jump SILVER (2.00m) & SILVER (4.84m) in the Triple Jump.; MM45+ Matthew Gurmin placed 4th in his 800m heat (2.14.25) and a BRONZE medal for MM60+ Chris Pruski (8.37m) in the shot along with a 5th place in the javelin (29.94m). Saturday 10th March was the CAU Inter Counties Cross Country Championships incorporating the final fixture of the British Cross Challenge series held at the mud bath of Prestwold Hall, Loughborugh. It was great to see six Swansea Harriers representing West Wales and Verity having a go up against very big fields including most of the UK top cross country runners:

U13G Mai Davies was 171st and Abbie Hall 295th. U13B Aled Tumelty 250th and Ben Sullivan 295th. SW Verity Ockenden had a great run with our highest placing of the day in 17th; Helen Marshall 148th and Abigayle Goodrick-Latham 240th. Very well done to them all, click here for the full results.

Sunday 11th March was the Welsh Schools Sports Hall Athletics Final held at Cwmbran. Athletes were representing their school districts which in our case was Afan Nedd Tawe. A large portion of the team was from Swansea Harriers with lots of great performances. Congratulations to those selected:

U15B Matthew Makoni (Bishop Vaughan)was the top placed all rounder in 12th overall ; Elissha Effiog (Bishops Vaughan); Miles Hill (Bishop Gore) & Carwyn Harry (Morriston). The team placed 4th.

U15G Caitlin Llewllyn (Bishop Vaughan) was the top placed all rounder in 4th just 4 points away from being the Welsh representative in the UK final; Georgia Wilson (Morriston); Aimee Merrick (Bishop Vaughan) & Evie James (Pontarddulais). The team had a great result win team BRONZE.

U13B Aled Tumelty (Gwyr); Christian Stones (Bishop Gore); Jacob Evans (Gwyr); Joseph Beresford (Olchfa); Joshua Aka (Bishopston); Conor O'Shaughnessy (Cefn Hengoed); Max Thomas (Morriston); Nathan Jones (Bishop Vaughan) & Oliver Clarkson (Bishop Gore). The team matched the U15G with a BRONZE medal winning performance.

U13G Chloe Jones (Bishop Vaughan); Hannah Shepard (Bishop Gore); Jessica Wilcock (Olchfa); Katelyn Thomas (Cefn Hengoed); Katie Lake (Pontarddulais); Lexi Allen (Pontarddulais); Megan Gwyther (Bishop Vaughan); Melissa Davies (Gowerton); Bethany Morgan (Bishop Gore) & Olivia Key (Bishopston). The team placed 4th.
