Results Round Up From Loughborough, Sheffield, Cardiff, Cwmbran, London, Lee Valley & Manchester

Saturday 9th March was the 5th and final Round of the British Cross Challenge series incorporating the UK Inter Counties and trials for the World Cross Country Championships held at Loughborough. It was great to six Swansea Harriers selected for their county teams up against many of the best cross country runners in the UK. SW Verity Ockenden was our highest placed individual in 11th , also participating were SW Helen Marshall 104th; U17M Nathan Jones 100th; U15B Iwan White 290th; U13G Kaitlyn Jones 264th and SM Daniel Morgan 285th. Very well done to them all on such a great set of results that can be viewed here.
The weekend of Saturday 9th & Sunday 10th March saw the England (UK) Indoor Combined Events Championships held at Sheffield, where we had two competitors U15B Zac Davies had a great result to finish 6th overall across the 5 pentathlon events, amassing a total of (2412 points) on route setting personal bests in the High Jump (1.53m); Long Jump (5.83m); Shot (8.70m) and 60m Hurdles (8.85); and U17W Emily Collins placed 44th with a total of (2256 points) setting personal bests in the 60m Hurdles (9.94) and Shot (8.79m). Sunday 10th March at Vault Cardiff it was great to see so many of our vaulters participating. Highlights included overall top jumps in each age group from: SM Fynley Caudery (4.38m); U20M Sam Fenwick & Ieuan Hosgood both (4.13m); SW Carys Jones (3.73m); U17M Noah Osborne (2.93m); U15G Millie Carter (2.83m); U17W Evie Lawrence (2.83m); U15B Harry Newton (2.43m); U13G Amy Beynon (2.33m) and U13B Charlie Shuall (1.73m). Sunday 10th March at Cwmbran was the Welsh Schools Sports Hall Athletics Final, again it was great to see such a large proportion of the team from Swansea Harriers for the Afan Nedd Tawe School District, highlights included;
U13B the team placed 4th including a win for David Ejimofor in the Vertical Jump.
U13G the team placed 4th including a win for Olivia Mackey in the 4 Lap Race.
U15B the team just missed out on a trip to Manchester for the UK final placing 2nd, Evan Willis was our top all rounder placing 7th overall in the U15B on route winning the 2 Lap Race.
U15G the team placed 5th, Abby Young was our top all rounder placing 9th overall in the U15G.

Sunday 10th March at London was the Big Half Marathon, strong winds put any chances of fast times out of reach, nevertheless in a top class field won by the great Mo Farah, Dewi Griffiths had a superb run to place 4th in (63.17) and just a couple of minutes behind having a great run too was 11th Joshua Griffiths (65.36). We had just the one runner in the women with Alaw Beynon-Thomas coming home in (80.12) and was the 17th woman overall. Very well done to all three.
The weekend of Saturday 9th & Sunday 10th March saw MW60 Renate Prells throw (30.13m) in the hammer to win GOLD at the British Masters Throws Outdoor and Indoor Championships at Lee Valley and follows this fine win up with a SILVER in the weight throw with a distance of (10.25m) and 5th (7.21m) Shot, well done Renate! MW70 Daphne Marler wins treble GOLD in the 60m (14.23) Long Jump (2.02m) and Triple Jump (4.70m); MM60 Roderick Davies places 5th in his 60m heat (9.09) and 4th in his 200m heat (29.96) but wins BRONZE in the Long Jump (3.94m). Meanwhile elsewhere SW Elinor Kirk runs a superb (35.02) for 10km at Trafford Manchester to finish 6th in the womens race.
