Results Round Up From Margam Reservoir, Belfast, Houston, Cardiff, Beachley & Elsewhere

Sunday 13th January was round 3 of 5 in the West Glamorgan Cross Country League held at Margam Reservoir, in what we believe was a record race turnout for the league, Swansea Harriers were well represented amongst the large field of over 500 finishers. Our womens team were on fore yet again filling four of the top 5 places! There was a 3 minute winning margin for Caryl Jones who was followed home by 2nd Helen Marshall, 4th Helen-Marie Davies; 5th Gemma Seaman and 13th Rebecca Bennett completing our top 5 home. They have now opened up a four point league at the top of the league table with 2 rounds to go. The mens top 5 home were; 9th Marc Davies; 16th Ifan Lloyd; 19th James Dean; 26th Wayne Bowen and 34th Paul Flynn. Saturday 19th January was the British Cross Challenge series in Belfast incorporating the Celtic and Home Countries Cross County Internationals. There were no less than six Swansea Harriers selected to represent Wales with U17W Beth Thomas placing 63rd in the U20/17W race; U17M Nathan Jones placing 25th in the U17/U20M race; in the SW Sian Edwards was 22nd followed home by 39th Izzy Parry-Jones; 43rd Helen Marshall and 45th Abigayle Goodrick-Latham. Sunday 20th January SM Dewi Griffiths runs a superb (61.44) in the Houston, USA Half Marathon placing 8th, this was his second fastest ever time, well done Dewi!
 
Sunday 20th January was the Cardiff Metropolitan University New Year Indoor Athletics Open Meeting, where once again the club was well represented. The meeting also incorporated the Welsh Masters (35+) Track Championships. Highlights included medal winning performances from our masters as well as other age group top performances from;
 
Masters: MM60+ Roderick Davies (9.29) 60m GOLD; MM60+ Chris Pruski (9.97) SILVER; MM60+ David Marginson (29.52) 200m BRONZE & (64.21) 400m GOLD; MW70+ Daphne Marler (14.77) 60m GOLD; MM50+ Paul Flynn (2.28.07) 800m SILVER & (5.12.05) 1500m GOLD & (65.59) 400m GOLD: MW35+ Llinos Jones (5.34.21) 1500m GOLD and MM50+ Glyn Price (4.00m) Pole Vault.
 
Seniors: Lauren Williams (9.68) 60m Hurdles; Leon Greenwood (6.91) 60m; Katie-Jane Priest (8.15) 60m & (27.20) 200m; Alex Price (2.03.66) 800m & (55.36) 400m and Katie Phillips (10.16m) Triple Jump.

Sunday 20th January was the Beachley 10km where SM Guy Smith runs (31.00) for 9th followed home by SW Caryl Jones having another win, but much closer this time in a sprint finish in the womens race (33.31); 58th Matthew Harvey (35.14); 95th Steven Taylor (38.09) and 5th SW Rachel Davies (38.19). SW Risqat Fabunmi-Alade runs (7.52) for 60m in Loughborough; U20W Gwennan Lewis throws (9.90m) in the Shot at the “Shot In The Dark” at Cardiff; SW Olivia Gwynn runs (10.21.30) over 3000m in Blacksburg USA; U15G Hannah Kinane in Stockholm, SWEEDEN runs (5.18.97) 1500m, (2.29.22) 800m & (28.68) 200m hot on the heels of her dads time Matt Kinane who ran (4.32.84) 1500m in the same meeting and SM Jac Hopkins throws the shot (7.33m) in New York USA.
