Saturday 16th September were the Welsh National Road Relay Championships held at Pembrey Country Park in near perfect conditions. It proved to be another very successful Welsh championships for Swansea Harriers with 7 team golds and 5 individual golds won:

In the senior age groups:
This year our senior mens team dominated their race, winning both team GOLD and SILVER medals, the A team looked extremely strong on paper and so it proved with, Dewi Griffiths and Josh Griffiths setting the 2 fastest individual times of the day, ably backed up by Jonathan Hopkins and Johnathan Tobin who finished well clear of the next team to cross the finish line, which were Swansea Harriers too! The B team incorporated the quartet of Liam Lloyd, Marc Hobbs, Jack Gooch and Ian Harris.
The senior womens team looked as equally impressive as the mens on paper, and so it proved again with the fastest 4 individual legs of all teams being set by all 4 of our A team, hence the comfortable victory for team GOLD! Caryl Jones was our quickest followed by, Alaw Beynon-Thomas, Andrea Whitcombe and Kate Roberts.

There were plenty of successes in the masters age categories too:
MM 35+ won team GOLD with all 3 of the team running within 13 seconds of each other! Raul Reismann was our fastest followed by Charles Walsh and Wayne Bowen.
MM 45+ won team GOLD with Eamonn Kirk the fastest individual across all clubs, making up the trio were Thomas Guest and Martyn Hughes-Dowdle
MM 55+  made it a clean sweep of the Masters GOLD team medals for the men, with the trio of Ifan Lloyd the fastest individual across all clubs supported by Steve Smith and Rob Falconer.
MW 35+ placed 4th overall with Vanessa Harrigan the trios fastest placing 7th individual across all clubs

Many thanks to all the Team Managers, coaches and parents who supported the event, it was a great medal haul for the club despite it being in the rest period for many of our athletes and the clash with the West Glamorgan Cross Country League the following day, which in fact was just a short 1km swim away directly opposite the other side of the Loughor Estuary, report below!
