Results Round Up From Pontypool; Birmingham; Swansea; Barcelona; Llanelli & Elsewhere

Saturday 9th February was the John Collins Gwent Cross Country League Round 4 of 5 for U11 to Seniors at Pontypool Park. With a very congested weekend of fixtures the turnout from our seniors was below average, and with many of the juniors saving themselves for the midweek Welsh Schools Championships the turnout here was much lower than usual here too. Our thanks to all those Swansea Harriers who did make it to Pontypool to support the club, here are the scoring runners and their individual results:
U11G: Setting high standards for all other age groups to follow were the superstars of the U11G team, our scoring four were; 2nd Libby Hale; 9th Chloe Hartley-Green; 21st Millie Pearce and 30th Ava Davies. The team are still in 2nd in the league with one fixture to go can they hold onto a podium position in the final round at Bristol?
U11B: was our only other complete team on the day with a great team turnout, the scoring four were; 22nd Charlie Hill; 53rd Malachi Williams; 54th Saul Otteson and 55th Jack Edwards all tightly bunched. The team are 8th in the league.
U13G: 21st Kaitlyn Jones and 43rd Sophie Hartley-Green, the team are 8th in the league.
U13B: 46th Joshua Pritchard and 65th Tilo Dietzig, the team are 9th in the league.
U15B: 31st Miles Hill, the team are 9th in the league.
SW: A strong run from 7th Helen Marshall, supported by 20th Abigayle Goodrick-Latham and 23rd Gemma Seaman, the team are 5th in the league.
SM: The ever reliable trio of 4th Phil Matthews having another great run for a top 10 placing; 97th Thomas Guest and 259th Simon Merrick, the team are 11th out of 12 in the league. Unfortunately despite having well over 100 Senior Men specialist endurance runners currently active in the club, they look nailed on for relegation unless they can turn around a 50 point defecit in the final fixture, which they are more than capable of (on paper) come on team you can do it!
U15G, U17M, U17W, U20M & U20W no runners. Click here for the full team and individual results.
The weekend of Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th February were the British Athletics Senior Indoor Championships at Birmingham. It was great to see so many of our athletes invited to compete at the highest level domestically and more than hold their own some of whom will have put their names in the minds of the selectors for the European Indoor Athletics Championships.
Hannah Brier progressed through the rounds all the way to the 60m final placing 7th in (7.47); Leon Greenwood after a period of injury made it to the final too of the 200m placing 5th in (21.67); Joseph Brier had our best result to place 4th in the 400m final in (47.42) and surely the selectors will now be strongly considering him for the 4 x 400m squad for the European Indoors at Glasgow; Laura Maddox was 4th in her 800m heat in (2.09.87) and Ben Paris was 5th in his 200m heat in (22.04). Very well done to them all on such a great weekends work, click here for the full results.
