Results Round Up From South Africa, Sheffield, Singleton, Glasgow & More

Tuesday 20th February saw one of the magnificent seven Dai Greene win a 400m Hurdles race in Potchefstroom, SOUTH AFRICA in a fantastic time of (50.08) just another .5 to go to hit the Commonwealth Games A standard.

Over the weekend of Saturday 24th & Sunday 25th February were the England (UK) U15, U17 & U20 Indoor Championships held at Sheffield. It was great to see 9 Swansea Harriers not only reach the tough entry criteria but also make the long trip to take part against the very best juniors in the UK a great experience for them. U15B Sam Petherbridge progressed to the 60m semi final placing 4th (7.64) and was also 5th in his 60m Hurdles heat (9.12); U17W Macey Morris made it to the 200m semi final and placed 2nd (25.42) just missing out on the final; U15B Charlie Holland had a superb run to win 800m GOLD in (2.11.72) becoming UK champion, well done Charlie! U20W Mia Evans made it to the 60m Hurdles semi final placing 7th (9.09); also in the U20W 60m Hurdles Josie Sivak was 6th in her heat (9.18) and a PB; U15B Noah Osborne was 10th in the Pole Vault (2.81m); U20M Osaze Aghedo was just a few cm off a medal in the Triple Jump with a best of (14.70m) for 6th; U17W Charlotte Campion was 7th in the Triple Jump (10.41m) and U17W Jamie Holland was 10th in the Shot (10.98m). Sunday 25th February live on the BBC was the Muller Grand Prix in Glasgow, if you were watching you would have seen our very own Risqat Fabunmi-Alade finish a magnificent 6th over 60m (7.48) against some of the best sprinters in the world, well done Risquat on your race!

Saturday 24th February Kristian Jones won the Scottish Cross Country Club Championships over a 10km course in Falkirk, well done Kristian!

If only every fixture was a home match as on Saturday 24th February the Welsh Clubs cross country championships came to Swanseas Singleton Park. In perfect sunny weather over a course that was undulating and very challenging we had an entry of over 150 from the club with nearly all showing up on the day. Our thanks to all the hard work of the team managers to round them all up and the time taken to process all their entries. Highlights included:

Race 1 U13B: The team placed 6th with the scoring four of 25th Aled Tumelty; 31st Benjamin Sullivan; 35th Matthew Lewis and 39th Henry Jones.

Race 2 U13G: The team just missed out on a medal in 4th with the quartet of; having a great run for 5th Ella Davies; 14th Mai Davies; 29th Abbie Hall and 40th Ffion Hennessey.

Race 3 U15B: The team were 5th, with Iwan White crossing the line in 24th; making up the scoring team were 36th Logan Lambe; 39th Miles Hill and 40th Kit Armstrong.

Race 4 U15G: had a great team result for SILVER; having an equally great run was 4th Ashleigh Willis; followed home by 11th Caitlin Gwyther; 13th Darcie Bass and 28th Mirain Lloyd.

Race 5: Senior & Masters Women: our SW won GOLD with 4th Sian Edwards and 6th Alaw Beynon-Thomas both running extremely well for top 10 placings, completing the winning quartet were 13th Hannah Munday & 16th Helen Marshall. We had such strength in depth our B team won BRONZE! with 19th Catherina Rennie; 23rd Jemima Osborne; 27th Abigayle Goodrick-Latham and 28th Helen-Marie Davies. This meant that further team medals followed for our Masters 35+ with team GOLD for the trio of Helen Marshall, Catherina Rennie and Helen-Marie Davies. Individual Masters medals went to; Helen Marshall MW35+ BRONZE; Helen-Marie Davies MW40+ BRONZE; Catherina Rennie MW45+ SILVER and MM65+ Uku Kamari BRONZE.

Race 6: U11B: another huge turnout from the boys with the team placing 4th just outside the medals. The scoring 4 were 10th Oliver Gillett; 13th Jenson Morris; 24th Callum Jones and 26th Oliver Patterson.

Race 7 U11G: had a great set of results for team BRONZE with quartet of 12th Carys Hennessey; 13th Kaitlyn Jones; 25th Ava Davies and 29th Chloe Lewis.

Race 8 U17M: we had just the 2 runners 11th Martin Powell and 22nd William Arnold.

Race 9 U17W & U20W: we were one short of a scoring team with the trio of Eluned King having a great run for 4th, followed home by 13th Beth Thomas and 24th Rebecca Martin.

Race 10 U20M: in a tiny field of just 10 runners we had 3 runners with new member Conor Smith crossing the line first, but not being Welsh the GOLD medal went to Dominic Smith in 2nd and Elliot Lawrence was 6th.

Race 11 Senior & Masters Men: just like our Senior & Masters womens teams were are fortunate to have such strength in depth at this time. Our Senior team won both team GOLD and BRONZE medals!! The A team of six were 2nd Phil Matthews; 6th Jack Gooch, 10th Matthew Harvey; 13th Matthew Rees; 16th James Dean and 18th Christian Lovatt. The B team consisted of 19th Matthew Richards; 23rd Paul Tobin; 33rd William Munday; 39th Ifan Lloyd; 45th Daniel Morgan and 53rd David Ruiz-Garcia. Our Masters teams won plenty of medlas too: MM35+ team SILVER with the trio of Geoff Lewis, Daniel Otteson & Rory McNair. MM40+ team GOLD! with the trio of Raul Reismann, Charles Walsh & Wayne Bowen; another team GOLD! cam from our MM50+ trio of Paul Flynn, Martyn Hughes-Dowdle & Thomas Guest; and our 4th team GOLD! was won by our MM55+ trio of Ifan Lloyd, Steve Smith & Rob Falconer! Naturally all these team medals must of meant there were plenty of individual medals to be shared among our mens teams too! SM after a great day at the office for Phil Matthews he picked up 2 further medals SM SILVER & MM35+ GOLD; Matthew Harvey MM35+ SILVER; Ifan Lloyd MM55+ GOLD and Steve Smith MM55+ BRONZE.

What a great day for the club, in a great setting, over a great course, and if it hadn't been for half term we would of had an ever bigger and better turnout! Our thanks to all those who ran for the club. Click here for the full results.
