Over the weekend of Saturday 30th June and Sunday 1st July were the British Senior Athletics Championships incorporating the trials for the European Championships held at Birmingham. Where it was awesome to see so many of our seniors up against the very best British domestic athletics has to offer and doing so well. Daniel Beadsley was 7th in his 100m heat (11.05); Lemarl Freckleton ran a lifetime best for 200m in (21.48) for 6th in his heat; Joseph Brier just missed out on qualifying for the 400m final finishing 3rd in his heat with (47.62); Olivia Caesar placed 4th in her 400m heat (54.37); Laura Maddox matched this with a 4th (2.10.03) in her 800m heat; Cari Hughes was 6th in her 1500m heat (4.25.23); undoubtedly the main highlight of the weekend was a win in the 400m Hurdles for club superstar Dai Greene (50.06) which means he’s now guaranteed to go to the European Championships having both the British title and qualifying time from earlier in the season, for those of you new to the club Dai won the European Championships back in 2010 and we are sure he can do it again! Lauren Williams was 3rd in her 400m Hurdles heat in a time of (59.85); Jonathan Hopkins was 4th in the 3000m steeplechase final but does already have the qualifying time for the European Championships so he will need to cross his fingers and toes to see if hes done enough to impress the selectors, we’d definitely pick him as we know he’d do a fantastic job for the team; and finally Nathan James who was our only field eventer threw (64.17m) for 6th in the Javelin Final. Many congratulations to them all on such a fine set of performances, click here for the full results.

Sunday 1st July was round 3 of 3 in the U17 & U20 Youth Development League Midlands Premier Division held at very wet Exeter. It was tough going for the team with so few athletes present representing their club, maybe as the match was a "dead rubber" due to it being certain that we would be in the promotion/relegation match in July alreday. Despite the team managers and those athletes present best efforts we ended up in 6th place. We are very thankful and grateful to those athletes supporting their club team in the league. Individual highlights included A string wins for U20M Tomos Slade (14.81) 110m Hurdles & (6.85m) Long Jump; U20W 4 x 100m (51.65) Seren Wyatt, Isabel Davies, Danai Mugabe & Armani Williams; U17W India Collinson (4.91m) Long Jump; U20W Macey Jones (11.59m) Triple Jump and U17W Lara Spacey (39.35m) Hammer. Click here for the full results and click here for the league table. Déjà vu, we were in the same boat last year so it all comes down to the Midlands U17 & U20 Promotion match, which is fortunately being held at home on Sunday 29th July, where the bottom three teams of our division will be against the top 3 teams from the South West Division 1 to decide who goes into what division next year.
