U17 Welsh Schools Team 2018
Wednesday 18th July was the final primary schools track & field fixture of 2018, with the clash of the titans in the West Glamorgan V Dyfed Primary schools inter county match at Swansea University. It was great to see the club so well represented in the West Glamorgan team after progressing through the area sports qualification groups. In a closely fought match Dyfed ran out as winners in the match however there were still plenty of medals won, including with winning performances from;
GOLD: David Ejimofor (NTR) 70m Hurdles and Ruby Jones (1.30m) High Jump.
SILVER: David Ejimofor (1.35m) High Jump; Olivia Mackey (1.30m) High Jump and Sophie Taylor (3.82m) Long Jump.
BRONZE: Drew Dodd (NTR) 70m Hurdles; Evan Morris (13.7) 100m; Olivia Mackey (14.1) 100m; Thomas Whitehouse (1.30m) High Jump and Matilda Quick (3.74m) Long Jump.
Very well done to all those who took part, thanks to all the volunteers and teaching staff who helped out on the day, it was also great to see several of our U17 & U20 athletes helping out too. Click here for the full results 18.07.18 RESULTS 2018 INTER- COUNTY.xls

Saturday 21st July saw the annual U17 British Schools International held at Grangemouth Scotland. We would usually expect around 5 or 6 athletes to make the Wales team each year maybe close to 10 on a good year, however in 2018 we had 13 athletes selected which may be an all time club record in itself!? It goes to show what great work the athletes and their coaches are doing to make up such a large portion of the team. All athletes performed excellently and we would like to congratulate them on such a great set of results as well as gaining in most cases their first ever international vests. Here’s how they all got on against the very best U17 athletes in the UK;
Thomas after volunteering with an hour or so to spare to run the 100m in the selection match on 7th July at Cardiff, due to withdrawls from the school district team ended up being selected for Wales and placed 7th Thomas Payne (11.20) 100m & 4th (43.51) 4 x 100m; 4th Macey Morris (25.41) 200m & 2nd (2.42.31) 4 x 300m; 8th Isabel Davies (43.53) 300m & 2nd (2.42.31) 4 x 300m; 5th Steffan Jones (50.54) 400m & 4th (3.25.76) 4 x 400m; 7th Dafyd Jay (9.30.26) 3000m; 7th Ashleigh Willis (10.39.16) 3000m; 7th Bronwen Stratton-Thomas unfortunately fell at the first barrier but recovred superbly well and finished in (5.39.09) 1500m Steeplechase; 6th Sam Fenwick (3.91m) Pole Vault; 7th Evie Lawrence (2.91m) Pole Vault; 7th Carys Poole (5.25m) Long Jump is only an U15G and has jumped so well this year was picked out of age group; 6th Charlotte Campion (10.81m) Triple Jump; 7th Jamie Holland (11.44m) Shot and 7th Lara Spacey (48.02m) Hammer and a lifte time best. Click here for the full results.

Saturday 21st July in Bristol saw our U13 & U15 team progress out of their regional league, into the Youth Development League Midlands area final where they were up against the 5 best other club teams fighting for a place in the UK Grand Final. Unfortunately it was not to be this year with the team placing an admiral 4th in a tough match, hopefully next year. Our thanks to all those athletes that represented the club and to those athletes who mucked in taking part in events they wouldn’t usually do so, in trying to help the team qualify, they can all be very proud of their efforts. Our thanks also to all the team mangers and officials who made it another successful season with their great efforts supporting and selecting teams. There is however plenty left to play for with two cup finals to come in the Welsh Cup final at home later this season and the Gerald Codd Trophy in Haverfordwest. At Bristol individual highlights came with A sting wins from:
U15B Charlie Holland (37.00) 300m & (2.01.75) 800m; U13G Hannah Kinane (2.28.15) 800m; U15B Addam Bowling (1.74m) High Jump; U13G Sarah Lyons (4.82m) Long Jump which was an all time club record as she finally had an event with a wind gauge and it was a legal wind, well done Sarah; Oscar Dun (36.39m) Discus & (22.62m) Hammer and U15B Sam Petherbridge, Dylan Morgan, Fiachra Tobin & Harvey James (2.44.74).
Thanks again to all those athletes who represented their club over the qualifying league matches as well as the regional final, click here for the full results.
