Results Round Up From Swansea x 2, Carmarthen, London & Elsewhere

Wednesday 24th April was round 1 of 5 in the Welsh Masters League held at home in Swansea. Fortunately the poor weather cleared and a great evenings athletics was held with over 60 athletes participating, including the Swansea Harriers masters out on mass as if they were in the 1980s and 90s again! Our thanks to all the volunteers who made the evening possible. Highlights included;
Men: M50 Robin Wood (28.7) 200m; M60 Roderick Davies (30.4) 200m; M50 Glyn Price (3.40m) Pole Vault; M45 Steve Ingram (8.41m) Triple Jump; M45 Peter Roberts (10.06m) Shot; M60 Chris Berry (9.43m) Shot; M70 Ian Bowles (27.04m) Discus; M60 Chris Pruski (15.66m) Hammer and M70 David Jones (18.04m) Hammer.
Women: M35 Llinos Jones (11.17.6) 3000m; M60 Renate Prells (17.20m) Discus and Daphne Marler (10.93m) Hammer.
 
Thursday 25th April was the monthly Carmarthen Harriers throws only open meeting. This round the two disciplines were Javelin and shot. Our top performer in each age group and discipline were;
SHOT: U17M Oscar Dun (11.78m); U13G Lily Ford (8.48m) and U15G Lucy Harris (7.20m).
JAVELIN: U17M Joshua Wilton (46.34m); SW Rachel Jones (34.72m); SM Chris Pruski (27.04m); U15B Thomas Gorvett (25.19m); U15G Lucy Harris (25.31m) and U13G Lily Ford (13.02m).

Saturday 27th April was round 1 of 3 in the U13 & U15 Youth Development League at home in Swansea. Despite the high winds that meant we were unable to use the cage for discus and hammer, all other event disciplines went ahead, with the jumps held indoors. Hurdles were held on the back straight and with some gale force tail winds the hurdlers set some impressive times! Our thanks to everyone involved in hosting the day, as well as the volunteers from all six teams and university staff, all of who cooperated and made great efforts to ensure the event could be held. It was a successful match for Swansea Harriers too with a fine win getting the team of to a great start at the top of the league table. Individually highlights included A string wins from:
U15B: Zac Davies (12.0) 80m Hurdles & (5.12m) Long Jump; William Trott (3.60m) Pole Vault and George Snaith (45.73m) Javelin.
U15G: Holly Guite (2.30m) Pole Vault and Chloe Jones (9.46m) Shot & (30.34m) Javelin.
U13B: Evan Morris (5.20.9) 1500m and David Ejimofor (1.45m) High Jump & (8.31m) Shot; 
U13G: Bethan Holley (4.12m) Long Jump; Ruby Jones (1.38m) High Jump and Lily Ford (8.52m) Shot.

Sunday 28th April was the London Mini & Full Marathon where once again the club was well represented. Getting the day off to a great start saw three of our juniors selected to represent Wales early at 8.30 in the morning before the full marathon got underway over the last 3 miles of the route. Very many congratulations to all three on their Welsh vests and performances there were separate races for each age group and gender; 47th U13G Mai Davies (19.22); 68th U15G Daisy Thompson (19.52) and 45th U17W Ashleigh Willis (18.19).
In the full marathon Dewi Griffiths had a superb run to place 16th overall and 3rd Briton in the process winning Welsh Championships GOLD and running under the qualifying time for this Septembers World Athletics Championships. Just behind in 21st overall and winning Welsh Championships SILVER in a lifetime best of (2.14.25) was Joshua Griffiths, very many congratulations to them both on such world class performances it was great to see them live on TV too! A little further down the field completing our top 10 finishers were; Paul Flynn (3.01.44); Helen-Marie Davies (3.04.42); Owen Davies (3.23.36); Michael Jones (3.45.54); Rebecca Bennett (3.52.27); Matthew Hendery (3.57.03); Andrew Downie (4.04.07) and Matt Hennah (4.08.30). Meanwhile elsewhere....................The weekend of Saturday 27th & Sunday 28th April were the Somerset Schools Combined Events Championships at Street, Saturdays events were badly effected by storm Hannah, nevertheless U17M Ryan Price placed 16th in the Octathlon with 2150 points. SW Elinor Kirk places 2nd in the Cheshire 5K in a superb (16.24); SM Ben Paris runs a wind assisted  (10.79) 100m & (21.94) 200m and Conor Smith sets a time of (32.23.96) for 10,000m both at the Loughborough Students BUCS Trials & Open on Saturday 27th April. SW Verity Ockenden sets a lifetime best for 5,000m in (15.40.48) at Azus, USA on 18th April. SW Sian Morgan clears (3.65m) for Pole Vault in Irvine, USA on 26th April. SM Ronan Llyr runs (58.00) for 400m Hurdles at Lee Valley, London on 20th April.
