Results Round Up From Whitford Point, Cardiff, Carmarthen, Street, Swansea & Newport

Wednesday 25th April was the 21st running of the Swansea Harriers Whitford Point Multi terrain race held on the North Gower Coastline over a very challenging course. In sunny but breezy weather there was a small field of 76 finishers however a great evening was had by all with many fine results. Winning the ladies race was Helen Marshall who took home the top prize of 3 bottles of water, she also won another bottle of water as being part of the winning team of herself, brand new member 2nd Sharon Leech and 4th Helen-Marie Davies. In the Mens race our first runner home was 3rd placed  Marc Davies who was part of our winning team trio of 5th Ifan Lloyd & 7th Craig Jones. Wednesday 25th April was the Welsh Athletics 800m & 1500m graded open meeting at Cardiff. Highlights included the quickest time set in each age group by:
800m U17W Darcie Bass (2.27.54).
1500m SM Jack Gooch (3.56.75); U20M Elliot Lawrence (4.10.90); SW Victoria Jackson (5.01.87); U17W Bronwen Stratton-Thomas (5.04.02) and U13G Mai Davies (5.36.56).
Thursday 26th April was the first of the monthly Carmarthen Harriers throws only open meeting. Highlights included the furthest distance thrown in each age group and discipline by:
U20M Nathan James (56.95m) Javelin.
U17M Harley Thomas (10.57m) Shot and Joshua Wilton (26.21m) Discus & (41.09m) Javelin.
U17W Holly Cooper (29.51m) Discus.
U15G Chloe Jones (8.56m) Shot & (21.22m) Discus & (31.46m) Javelin.
U13B Conor O’Shaughnessy (16.62m) Discus and Thomas Gorvett (24.89m) Javelin.
U13G Lucy Harris (18.80m) Discus & (22.82m) Javelin and Isla Melrose (6.62m) Shot.

The weekend of Saturday 28th & Sunday 29th April were the Somerset County Schools Combined Event Championships held at Street. This is a fantastically well organised weekend where 4 of our Swansea Harriers competed as guests. U20M Michael Thompson had a superb 2 days in the 10 events of the Decathlon amassing 5161 points on route setting personal bests in the 400m (57.92), Pole Vault (3.20m), Long Jump (6.68m) and Javelin (38.61m) to win the whole completion, well done Michael! U17W Jamie Holland was in the heptathlon who set two personal bests across the seven events in the 80m Hurdles (15.21) and Shot (11.92m) ending the day high up in 10th overall with a lifetime best of (3432 points), U15G Carys Poole in the Pentathlon didn’t set any personal bests but was very close across all her events eventually amassing 2829 points to place a superb 4th and in the process break our first all time club record of 2018, set by Emily Dacey back in 2009 (2806 points) well done Carys! and U15G Emily Collins also in the pentathlon like Carys set no individual bests but did achieve a lifetime best combined score of 1644 points to place 31st. Sunday 29th April was round 1 of 3 in the U17 & U20 Youth Development League South West Premier Division at home in Swansea, we are awaiting a copy of the results however we do know the team placed 5th, more details to follow next week.
Sunday 29th April was the Newport Wales Marathon and 10K where SM Morgan Davies had a great run to place 2nd in the 10K (30.53), followed home by 38th Stuart Booker (37.59) and Kate Roberts was 4th lady home in (37.15). Over the full marathon Alex Scott was first back in 56th (2.59.24), then 101st John Moran (3.06.08); 153rd Geoffrey Robinson (3.11.52); Catherina Rennie was our first lady home in a lifetime best of (3.17.53) followed across the line by 373rd Emily Marchant (3.27.48) and 413th Rob Falconer (3.29.54). Wednesday 2nd May was the Afan Nedd Tawe Schools & Colleges U15, U17 & U20 Championships held at Swansea University. There was a huge turnout from the schools and fortunately the weather was good. Highlights included overall winning performances from:
U15B Harvey James (12.4) 80m Hurdles; Charlie Holland (38.6) 300m and beat his own record by 0.1 in the process & (2.10.0) 800m; William Trott (3.30m) Pole Vault; Dylan Morgan (5.27m) Long Jump & (10.66m) Triple Jump and Oscar Dun (23.46m) Hammer & (10.79m) Shot & (29.17m) Discus.
U15G Carys Poole (13.0) 75m Hurdles & (28.6) 200m & (5.06m) Long Jump adding 1cm to her own all time record!; Gabrielle Garcia (47.3) 300m; Tiffany Rees (2.32.2) 800m; Chloe Jones (28.66m) Javelin; Neve Bowen (27.89m) Discus; Carys Dickinson (9.03m) Shot; Tamsin Thomas (24.34m) Hammer; Elin Murphy (2.40m) Pole Vault and in a brand new event to the championships this year Millie Carter (8.12m) Triple Jump.
