What a weekend for the club; In what was arguably the most important home league fixture the club has ever had Swansea Harriers senior women on the day were so good they comfortably retained their place in the UK Womens Athletics League Premier Division in their debut season against the very best clubs in the UK. Very many congratulations to all those athletes who have represented the team this season, everyone at the club is very proud of your magnificent achievement. The team finished 3rd on the day and 4th in the final league table. Individual victories on the day included Caryl Jones setting a new PB, League Record, Club Record, Welsh Record and also went to 6th on the UK All Time ranking list in the A 2000m Steeplechase (6.39.35) and that was after setting another PB in the A 3000m (9.13.60), Andrea Whitcombe B 3000m (9.33.50), Megan Rogers B 400m Hurdles (63.5). Both relay teams bettered the existing club records, however all 4 runners must be 1st claim members for records to stand none the less they were 2 fine team efforts, very well done; 4 x 100m (47.01) Rachel Johncock, Hannah Thomas, Rebecca Williams & Caryl Granville, 4 x 400m (3.53.55) Rebecca Williams, Hannah Thomas, Megan Rogers & Caryl GranvilleClick here for the full results. At Derby the Senior Mens team put in another very solid performance in Division 3 of the British Mens League. The team finished the match in 6th place and are also hold onto 6th place in the league. Individually there were wins for Dewi Griffiths in the B 1500m (4.03.99) and B 3000m (8.39.97), there was a double in the Javelin with Rhys Williams winning the A (64.66m) and Jon Llewellyn winning the B (53.51m)  Click here for the full results. The following day at Stoke for the 4th year in a row the U13, U15 & U17 National Young Athletes team raised their game once again to finish 4th in the Midlands Regional final and qualify for the Auxiliary Final for the 9th to 16th best Junior clubs in the UK on Saturday 1st September. The juniors made they very long journey to Stoke and still managed to put in very many superb performances against some excellent clubs. Highlights on the day included victories for U17M Jonathan Tobin A 3000m (9.16.9) and B 1500m (4.20.8), U15G Jessica Merrick B 200m (26.8), U17W Lara Phillipart A 1500m (4.52.0) and U17W B 1500m Iona Evans (5.06.9), U15B Miles Keller-Jenkins A High Jump (1.85m), U17M Lewis Preece A Pole Vault (3.80m), U17M Josh Hollisey-Mclean B Pole Vault (3.60m), U15G Emily Cockrill A Discus (30.18m) and A Shot (10.64m), U13B Scott Hill A Shot (7.81m), U13B Michael Thompson B Shot (7.34m), U15G Jessica Harry A High Jump (1.50m), U15G Paige Murphy B High Jump (1.35m), U17W Catrin Jones A High Jump (1.60m), U17M Rhys Gealy A Shot (11.80m), U15G Danielle Jones B Javelin (22.74m) and U13G Rachel Jones A Shot (9.53m). Just as with the Welsh Junior League special thanks must go to all those athletes that have contributed to the NYAL teams success this year to become the only Welsh team to qualify again for the UK National Finals we are very lucky to have so many talented and dedicated athletes in one club. Special thanks goes to all the coaches who have helped them get to this level, the team managers for pulling the teams all together and our officials team who always cover the clubs officiating responsibilities, an all round team effort.
