The club is always looking for new volunteers to help our existing and fantastic team of very friendly volunteer officials and coaches. As luck would have it there is a UK Athletics Level 1 Field Judge Qualification and Leading Athletics Coaching Certificate being held at Swansea University Indoor Athletics Track, Sketty Lane over consecutive days at the end of January, more detail below;

The UK Athletics Assistant Officials Qualification is on Saturday 25th January between 1:00pm and 4:00pm.

Would you like to help your club fulfil its league officiating duties for the summer 2020 track and field season?
Closing Date for applications is 5pm Friday 17th January, open to volunteers from all clubs and is £FREE to attend.
Who should go on the course? Anyone aged 14 or over interested in gaining an insight and introduction to the key areas of officiating that will enable them to assist at track and field meetings under the supervision of a qualified UKA Technical Official.
What will I learn? Delivered as a single workshop of four hours in six section with both theoretical and practical elements covering:
  • The responsibilities and role of an Assistant Official
  • Measuring and recording times and distance
  • Making, sharing and recording judgments
  • Ensuring safety and reporting concerns
  • Communicating with athletes and other officials
  • Following procedures and applying basic rules
What will I be able to do? After completing the course, candidates will need to:
Gain experience by attending a minimum of two athletics meetings assisting a qualified official
Complete a Recorded Evidence Form detailing each meeting and have this signed by a qualified UKA Technical Official. (These experiences can also be gained at schools' athletics meetings, signed off by the appropriate teacher)
Undertake a DBS check, if aged 16 or over, or if under 16 make a Self Declaration
An assistant Officials' Licence will then be issued

The Leading Athletics Coaching Certificate is on Sunday 26th January between 1:00pm and 4:00pm.

£25 per person, Minimum age = 14, Closing Date for applications is 5pm Friday 17th January

Crammed with 'Top Tips' for effective delivery, the support resource also explores the key principles of running, throwing and jumping events whilst providing technical information which support these principles.
A pre-cursor to formal coaching qualifications that complements the other British Athletics programmes of study and provides training for volunteers who can help to assist and lead activities under the guidance and support of a qualified athletics coach, helping to create more thriving club.
