Weekend Results

The U13, U15 & U17 National Young Athletes League team got their season off to the perfect start with a victory in the Midland Premier South Division, in a very exciting and competitive day now that all 6 teams compete together. As ever all the athletes did a fantastic job covering most of the disciplines and with several athletes unavailable there is the potential to build on this success for the remaining 2 league fixtures. Very many thanks to all those athletes who represented the club and did us proud, all the officials who helped on the day and to all the team managers at getting out such strong teams. The final team scores are still being scrutinized and we hope to confirm these in the next day or two. Individually highlights included Grade 1 performances by Hannah Brier 100m 12.4 & 200m 25.5, Stephanie Nicholas 33.17m Discus, Emily Cockrill 10.56m Shot, Catrin Jones 1.63m High Jump, Rachel Jones 9.13m Shot and Miles Keller-Jenkins 1.70m High Jump. As one of the test events for the Olympic Games the British Universities Athletics Championships were held over 4th to 7th May at Olympic Park London. The club had several athletes participating representing their Universities. Highlights included a great run by Dewi Griffiths in the 10000m to win Silver in a time of 30.21.1 and a Bronze medal for Caryl Granville in the 400m Hurdles in a time of 59.52. Click here for the full results.

Well traveled Commonwealth Games athlete Ashleigh Hellyer was in Croatia where he won a bronze medal in the Croation Open Championships in the seated shot put setting a new personal best of 7.20m, there were over 300 athletes participating from 26 different countries in this major international event. Ashleigh flew back Monday to compete Tuesday in another of the Olympic Park test events today. Where he will be followed by the following 7 Swansea Harriers athletes who have been selected to represent the Welsh Schools U17 International team to compete in the Olympic Stadium on Wednesday 9th May as another of the test events before the Olympic Games. Lewis Preece (Gowerton) Pole Vault, Olivia Gwynn (Bishopston) 1500m, Jonathan Tobin (Bishopston) 3000m, Connor Davies (Gwyr) 1500m Steeple Chase,  Erin Walters (Bro Myrddin) High Jump, James Ledger (Cardiff Metropolitan University) Ambulant Long Jump and Alex Pavlou (Olchfa) 4 x 400m relay.
