Results Round Up From Singleton; Sheffield, Wokingham, Neath & Cardiff

Saturday 27th February were the Welsh Clubs Cross Country Championships at Singleton Park, Swansea. In perfect conditions for cross country it was fantastic to see the club have so many athletes participating in every single race from the Primaries to the Masters. Over a brilliant but tough, hilly course there were many fine performances some of the highlights are outlined below.


Ready Steady Go!

Ready, Steady, Go! The outdoor season gets off with a bang on Sunday 10th April with the traditional Swansea Harriers Open Meeting. There is a closing date for entries of Friday 1st April. The meeting is open to all age groups and everyone is encouraged to attend as the team managers will begin to select their league teams straight after the 10th for the matches at the end of the month, so this is your chance to impress them.

Thursday 18th April were the Armagh 3K & 5K International Road Races where is was fantastic to see Swansea Harriers endurance runners performing so well against some top domestic and international opponents, with personal bests all over the place! In the women’s 3K Alaw Beynon-Thomas set a lifetime best of (9.51) placing 24th.

The weekend of Saturday & Sunday 13th & 14th February were the UK U15, U17 & U20 Indoor Athletics Championships at Sheffield, it was fantastic to see so many of our junior not only achieve the tough qualifying standards but also compete so well coming home with two medals against the UK’s most talented juniors.

Swansea Harriers are now collecting Salisbury's Active Kids Vouchers, please hand them in when paying your training fees on any club night and hopefully this year again we can purchase some much needed extra equipment for our juniors!!

Sunday 7th February was the U20 Indoor Athletics International for Wales V England at Cardiff, and it was awesome to see 5 Swansea Harriers selected and compete for the Wales U20 team, everyone at the club is proud of them!

Wednesday 17th February Leading Athletics Coaching Certificate @ Swansea

On Wednesday 17th February Leading Athletics Coaching Certificate @ Swansea University Indoor Athletics Track, from 6.30pm to 9.30pm will be a UK Athletics Leading Athletics Certificate. This new leadership workshop is for those looking to lead athletics activities for young athletes. Packed full of useful tips and ideas, this three hour workshop is supported by a workbook, support resource and a series of game cards which aid delivery.

Primary Schools Cross Country Fixtures Entries Update

As for the Afan Nedd Tawe secondary schools and colleges competitions, primary aged athletes schools MUST be affiliated to their West Glamorgan Primary Schools Athletics Association to participate in any fixture and represent county teams. Below are the schools who have entered the cross country league to date, as well as which area they have been allocated in. If your school is not on the list, it is not too late do enter and affiliate.

Sunday 31st January was the Welsh Senior Indoor Athletics Championships at Cardiff incorporating some junior age group championships too. Once again it proved to be a very successful championships for Swansea Harriers with athletes coming away with the following medals and another hat full of seasons and personal bests.
