British & Welsh Athletics Supported Athletes
With British & Welsh Athletics having both now revealed their supported athletes lists for 2024, across the various tiers of funding and or support pathways, we are pleased to see seven Swansea Harriers listed amongst them. Our sincere congratulations to:
Joseph Brier who is in the British Athletics Olympic World Class Programme. The Olympic Word Class Programme is UK Sport’s National Lottery funded initiative which has the purpose to identify, develop and support talented athletes towards medal success at the Olympic Games and other major Championships.
Hannah Brier, who is in the Welsh Athletics Transition Programme. The Transition Programme will focus on individualising the approach to athletic development with a clear focus on transitioning athletes into senior international athletes. All athletes within this programme are selected based on their performance history and athletic profile. Athletes within this programme will be determined to have the potential to perform at International senior level.
Lucy Harris, Libby Hale, Hannah Kinane, Dafydd Jones & Matilda Quick who are in the Welsh Athletics National Development Programme. The National Development Programme (NDP) will act as the entry-level programme for identified talented athletes across all event groups. Education, performance behaviours and event-specific physical, technical, and tactical development will form the basis of the performance curriculum. The entry age of the NDP athlete is a minimum of 14 years of age but there is no defined upper age limit which allows for later maturation athletes to engage in this programme. Only athletes who are deemed talented based on their athlete profile have been invited to engage with the NDP programme.
