Awards & Results Round Up
This week we have great news on the Welsh Athletics Annual Awards and results to round up for you from Liverpool, Neath and Oulton.
Saturday 25th November at the Welsh Athletics Annual Awards Swansea Harriers again took the crown for Club of the Year. “It has been another strong year for the club that has consistently produced high quality athletes at all levels of the sport. On track, their senior team competed in the Premiership of the National Athletics League whilst off track, both the men’s and women’s teams were victorious at the Welsh Road Relay championships with the senior men’s team also picking up the team title at the Welsh Cross Country Championships” Our congratulations goes to the 600+ athletes we currently have in the club who have all contributed to this fantastic accolade and success, ably supported by a team of unsung hero’s in the background who make it all possible including our volunteer coaches, team managers, club trustees, team managers and cafe team, an all round team effort!! Saturday 25th November was round 2 of 5 in the British Cross Challenge Series at Liverpool incorporating the trials for the European Cross Country Championships. It was great to see four Swansea Harriers in action, with U15G Libby Hale having the most successful race placing a superb 2nd matching her performance in round 1 at Cardiff. U20M Dafydd Jones had a great run too placing 11th in a top class field, SM Morgan James was 120th in his race and SW Bronwen Stratton-Thomas finished in 153rd, well done all!
Sunday 26th November was round 2 of 5 in the ever popular West Glamorgan League at Gnoll Country Park Estate in Neath. This senior league has grown in popularity so much over the last few years that at some venues such as the Gnoll entries for clubs need to be restricted on the numbers of runners that can be accommodated. Very well done those selected to run for the club, our scoring five Men and Women were:
Men: having a great run to win the race was Matthew Harvey followed by 3rd Marc Hobbs, 6th Matthew Verran, 12th Ben Williams & 16th Patrick Tudor.
Women: saw Joanna Callan have a great run for 2nd followed home by, 8th Kristy Smith, 11th Megan Clements, 27th Helen-Marie Davies & 32nd Diane Brownhill.
The provisional league tables after 2 fixtures show both our Men’s and Women’s teams sitting on top of the league, well done everyone! Click here for the full provisional results F2 Gnoll Provisional
