Results & Awards Round Up

This week we have results to round up for you from Norwich, London and Berlin plus Awards in recognition of our work from Welsh Athletics and the National Athletics League.

Sunday 8th September Michael Kallenberg runs a quick 31.44 in the Norwich 10km to place 4th, well done Michael!

Sunday 21st September U20W Hannah Kinane had a superb run in the Vitality Westminster Mile in London to place 3rd in a time of 4.55 against some very talented runners, congratulations Hannah!

Saturday 28th September were the Welsh Athletics annual awards at Cardiff, where the club once again won club of the year following on from last years win and numerous times previously. The award is not only recognition of the many excellent team and individual leagues and championships results of our 600+ Juniors, Seniors and Masters athletes for their performances in on and off track events, but also the team of volunteer coaches, officials, team managers and cafe team overseen by our club trustees, that underpin all this hard work behind the scenes. Our volunteers provide training and competitive opportunities year round including hosting Gwent League cross country and Senior & Junior Welsh & British League fixtures and our annual open meeting for track & field. Our sincere thanks and congratulations to everyone connected to the club. However this wasn’t our only award of night. We were thrilled to see David Greene was inducted into the Hall Of Fame . David represented Wales and Great Britain at the highest level. His main achievements on track in the sport have been:

  • World Champion 2011 – 400m Hurdles in Daegu, South Korea.
  • Commonwealth Games Champion 2010 – 400m Hurdles in Delhi, India.
  • European Champion 2010 – 400m Hurdles in Barcelona, Spain.
  • 2x Olympic finalist 2012 – 400m Hurdles and 4 x 400m Relay in London, England.
  • Silver World Champs 2009 – 4 x 400m Hurdles in Berlin, Germany.

As well as these achievements on the track, David has been captain of the Great Britain athletics team on 3 occasions, most notably at the London 2012 Olympic Games. Davis personal best is 47.84 for the 400m Hurdles which is a club record, Welsh Record and has him still ranked 2nd on the UK All time list amongst some illustrious company of which he is one. Congratulations David very much deserved!

Sunday 29th September M45 Charles Walsh finished the Berlin Marathon in 2.44.30, followed home by Tom Morris 3.05.54 well done both!

Congratulations to our very own Joseph Brier who has won the National Athletics league Championship Division athlete of the year after his 46.16 for th4 400m in the June fixture at home, you can see all the award winners on this link.
