Results Round Up
This week we have results to round up for you from Lee Valley London, Banska Bystrica Slovakia, Birmingham, London, Carmarthen, Merthyr Mawr, Wrexham, Yate, Aberdare and Cardiff, including two more all time club & Welsh Records!!!!
Wednesday 17th July SM Karl Williams runs a 11.35 for 100m and 23.12 for 200m at the Lee Valley Sprints Night in London, well done Karl!
Thursday 18th to Sunday 21st July were the European U18 Athletics Championships at Banska Bystrica, Slovakia. We were proud to see Lewie Jones selected in the Javelin for the Great Britain & Northern Ireland squad, it’s not too often we see our Juniors getting GB&NI vests, very many congratulations Lewie! Lewie was up against the very best throwers in Europe where in his qualifying pool B on Thursday he threw 63.58m to place 4th and automatically progress to the final where he placed a magnificent 8th in all of Europe with a throw of 63.52m!!
Friday 19th to Sunday 21st July were the England Athletics Senior, U23 & U20 Championships incorporating the UK Inter County Championships at Birmingham. It was great to see so many Swansea Harriers make the journey to Birmingham, coming away with two medals, here’s how they all got on; there was a fantastic BRONZE medal for U20M Samuel Davies with a 2.01m leap in the High Jump and U20W Lucy Harris went one better coming home with the SILVER in the Discus with a best throw of 41.50m, SM Eli Onyewu 11.02 100m in his heat for 6th, U23M Dafydd Roberts ran 49.70 for 400m to place 5th in his 400m heat and 7th in his 400m Hurdles heat with 58.77, U20M Evan Cole ran a 14.83 110m Hurdles personal best for 4th in his heat, SM Jack Houghton ran 55.05 for 400m Hurdles finishing 4th in his heat, Joseph Beresford was 5th in his 400m Hurdles heat in 59.92 and U20M Charlie Shuall was 5th in the Pole Vault final with a best of 4.20m. Very well done to all seven on such great performances against the best athletes in the UK!
Saturday 20th July was the London Diamond League where Joseph Brier had a great run and seasons best to place 6th in his 400m race coming home in a time of 45.83 and Hannah Brier was 7th in her 400m in 52.94 just 0.07 outside her personal best, well done both on such great runs in front of many thousands of spectators!
Saturday 20th July was the British Schools U17 International Wales V Scotland V Ireland V England at Carmarthen, held in absolutely awful weather conditions! It was awesome to see six Swansea Harriers selected to represent Wales at home in this extremely tough international where all had very successful days. Libby Hale not only won 1500m GOLD but in the process broke a 40 year old championship record and Welsh Age Group Record and Swansea Harriers all time club record at the same time with a time of 4.17.46, this also gave Libby the Welsh Athlete Of The Match Award! Millie Gold also had an amazing run to break her own all time club record in the 1500m Steeplechase and another Welsh Record too coming home in 4.58.49 and a GOLD medal and go 2nd in the UK rankings to date! Millie Pierce had a lifetime best in the 1500m Steeplechase with a 5.11.61, Matilda Quick and Wales Team Captain won BRONZE in the Shot with 12.38m and 5th in the High Jump with 1.57m. Nia Wakley won BRONZE in the 3000m Walk in a personal best of 19.55.16 and Oliver Philpott cleared 3.33m for 6th in the Pole Vault, an excellent result where it was difficult enough to keep a grip of the pole in such wet weather!
Saturday 20th July was the Rabbit Run 12km multi terrain race at Merthyr Mawr held over a very challenging 12km route including a few big sand dunes we had the three finishers, all in the Men with Geraint Williams having a great run to step onto the podium for the BRONZE medal! Geraint was followed home by 158th Nicholas De Vos and 162nd Richard Sullivan, well done all!
Sunday 21st July was the Wrexham 10km Dewi Griffiths had a great run to come home in 29.02 to place 4th and just behind in 5th was Joshua Griffiths recording a time of 29.47, both well under the 30 munities barrier once again, well done both!
Sunday 21st July was the Avon and Yate AC Masters Open Incorporating Welsh Masters (35+) Championships held at Yate, where once again we were well represented, showing all our Masters are still at the top of their game, with all of them coming away with at least one medal each .
M80+ Ian Bowles won GOLD in the 3kg Hammer with 27.21m, GOLD 1kg Discus 26.04m and GOLD in the 3kg Shot 7.86m, and SILVER 400g Javelin 14.10m M75+ David Jones won SILVER in the 4kg Hammer with 17.35m, M65+ Roderick Davies won GOLD in the Long Jump with 3.83m & GOLD 15.85 100m, W75+ Daphne Marler won GOLD in the 2kg Hammer with a 11.20m throw and ran 30.26 for the 100m to take GOLD and 1.38m Long Jump GOLD M35+ Matthew Rees won SILVER in the 1500m in 4.14.33 & 800m SILVER in 2.06.27 and GOLD in the 3000m 9.16.18, M60+ Peter Osborne won SILVER in the 1500m in 5.41.71 and GOLD 3000m 12.03.16, W40+ Isobel Dawson won BRONZE in the 1500m in 5.49.82 and SILVER in the Javelin 19.05m, M65 Chris Pruski won a GOLD in the 5kg Shot with a best of 7.39m, SILVER in the 600g Javelin 29.73m & SILVER in the 1kg Discus with 23.57m. Great stuff everyone!
Tuesday 23rd July was the British Milers Club in Aberdare where in the 800m we had four runners, U17W Libby Hale 2.13.72, SW Emily Jenkinson 2.15.64, SW Millie Fakande 2.19.66 and SW Ella Davies 2.26.71. In the 400m U20M Joseph Beresford ran 52.82. In the 1500m SM Dafydd Jones was fastest overall in 3.49.87 followed by U17W Holly Humphreys 4.44.29, U17W Millie Pierce, SW Iona Evans 5.01.53, U20W Mai Davies 5.17.55 and U20W Jessica Hewitt 5.20.19. the 3000m we had just the one runner with U20W Hollie Lewis 10.47.87, well done everyone!
Wednesday 24th July was the third and final SSAFA 5km series at Cardiff. In the Men we had two finishers with M35 Geraint Williams crossing the line in 15th 16.04 and M40 Steven Taylor in 70th 17.37. In the Women’s race we got two onto the podium with Gemma Tutton placing 2nd in a fast 17.10 and W35 Kate Roberts 3rd in 17.31, Kristy Smith followed them home in 19th in a time of 19.34, well done everyone!
