Results Round Up
This week we have results to round up for you from Lee Valley London x 2, Brecon, Birmingham, Kenfig Nature Reserve, Seville Spain, London & Pontardawe.
Sunday 16th February was the England Masters Athletics Association Inter Area Challenge at Lee Valley, London, were representing Wales M35 Daniel Williams placed 3rd in the High Jump with 1.65m, W40 Katherine Morgan was 2nd in the High Jump with 1.40m & 3rd in the Long Jump with a best of 4.36m, M55 Glyn Price was 7th in the Pole Vault with 2.40m, very well done to all four on their Welsh Masters Vests.
Wednesday 19th February was the Welsh Secondary Schools & Colleges Cross Country Championships at Brecon. There were plenty of Swansea Harriers athletes in action, most running for Afan Nedd Tawe, with a few for Dyfed and Cardiff & the Vale too. For the junior and middle age groups international vests were up for selection if they could finish in the top 6 place, of which we are pleased to say 5 of them did, all listed below.
Year 7 Girls: 10th Poppy Brannigan, 20th Emily Evans-Williams and 60th Sofia Morgan.
Year 7 Boys: 26th Tomi Jones, 79th Ethan Gavin & 80th Jack Collins.
Junior Girls (School Years 8&9): 5th Lyla Jonsson and a Welsh Vest, 28th Zoe Thompson, 36th Gwennan Gruffydd, 41st Darcy Gibbon, 48th Rosie Jones and 60th Hannah Sullivan.
Junior Boys (School Years 8&9): Individual BRONZE and a Welsh Vest to Oliver Cobbold, 12th Jack Griffiths, 38th Isaac Mcadie, 53rd Lucas Gibbs, 59th Tomos Pugh and 64th Bo Cuthberston,
Middle Girls (School Years 10&11): Individual SILVER and a Welsh Vest for Holly Humphreys, 4th and a Welsh Vest for Sioned John, 6th and a Welsh vest for Millie Pierce, 12th Chloe Hartley-Green, 19th Olivia Morgan, 26th Hannah Jones, 44th Sienna Hurley, 52nd Tabitha Ventress-Brett, 63rd Katie Evans, 65th Brooke Harris and 66th Erin Lloyd.
Middle Boys (School Years 10&11) 12th Jack Sullivan, 13th Osian Morgan, 15th Aaron Nathan and 55th Deri Jones.
Senior Girls (School Year 12 to 14) saw a fantastic win for Millie Gold, 4th Hollie Lewis, 9th Ava Davies, 12th Anna Williams and 21st Daisy Anderson.
Senior Boys (School Years 12 to 14) 28th Oscar Radka.

Saturday 22nd & Sunday 23rd February were the British Seniors Indoor Athletics Championships in Birmingham. The UK top athletes were in action trying to achieve qualifying performances for the European and World Indoor Championships. Amongst them were five Swansea Harriers who all performed admirably, Joseph Brier ran a 21.78 for 3rd in his 200m heat but got injured in the semi final, Hannah Brier best time came in her 400m heat with 53.28, then placed 4th in her semi final, Evan Cole was 6th is his 60m Hurdles heat in 8.64, Samuel Davies was 10th in the High Jump final with 2.03m and Carys Jones 6th in the Pole Vault final with a best of 3.81m. Very well done to five on mixing it with the best athletes in the UK and doing so well.
Saturday 22nd & Sunday 23rd February were the British Masters Indoor Championships at Lee Valley, London. The club were well represented and came home with a 5 medal haul, with M35 Oladele Bamisaye having his first race since 2018 placing 4th in the 60m with 7.58, M35 Daniel Williams who won High Jump SILVER with 1.70m, M65 Roderick Davies placed 5th in the Long Jump with a best of 3.59m & 11th 200m 31.02 & 7th 60m 9.80, W40 Kathryn Morgan taking High Jump GOLD with 1.40m and was 5th in the Long Jump with a best of 4.40m and the main highlight of the weekend was W35 Caryl Moore making her masters debut coming away with 3 GOLD medals 8.88 60m Hurdles, 25.27 200m & 57.05 400m, congratulations everyone!
Sunday 23rd February was the West Glamorgan Cross Country League round 4 of 5 for our Senior runners at Kenfig Nature Reserve. Out top 5 Men & Women home were Men: 7th Patrick Tudor, 22nd Paul Flynn, 25th Martyn Hughes-Dowdle, 39th Alan Davies and 47th Owen Davies. Women: 4th Maria Kowal, 39th Caroline Morgan, 42nd Angela Delaney, 57th Sian Phillips and 58th Stella-Rae Hicks. Thanks to all those who turned out for the club, we are awaiting the league tables to be published. Look out on our annual fixtures page for details on the 5th and final fixture which will be at a brand new venue that hasn’t been used previously by the league at Tairgwaith Trotting Track, SA18 1UT on Sunday 23rd March.
Sunday 23rd February Emily Marchant runs an incredible personal best for the Marathon in Seville Spain, crossing the line in 2.36.47, the time is so quick it knocks her 3 places up the Welsh All Time ranking list from 11th to 14th, congratulations Emily!
Sunday 23rd February Kristian Jones runs a super fast 10 second personal best of 29.22 for 10km to take the win in the Cancer Research UK London Winter Run, congratulations Kristian!
Sunday 23rd February was the Afan Nedd Tawe Secondary Schools SportsHall Athletics Trials at Pontardwe Leisure Centre. A small entry of just 10 pupils participated due to the half term clash. If any other pupils would like to be considered for the Afan Nedd Tawe team at Llantrisant Leisure Centre on Sunday 9th March, please email [email protected] and include the pupils name, school year and school name. Pupils compete in shuttle runs and field events such as standing long jump, standing triple jump, speed bounce vertical jump and shot. Pontardawe results below:
