Results Round Up
This week we have results to round up for you from, Swansea x 2, Eugene USA, Cardiff, Belfast, Merthyr Mawr, Bedford & Stratford and yet another all time club record!!
Wednesday 13th July was the return of the U11 & U13 Triangular fixture V Llanelli V Neath at home in Swansea where it was great to see 93 children having a go at a competition in what to date has been another season of very limited opportunities for the U11 & U13 age groups with so many cancellations/postponements for a variety of reasons. Thank you to all the volunteers who made the evening possible and very well done to all the athletes. Highlights included our overall top performer in each event as follows:
U11B Nico Ciaburri 11.7 75m and Isaac Mcadie 5.48m Shot & 2.48.8 800m & 13.04m Javelin.
U11G Somiochi Emenogu 11.8 75m & 6.41m Shot; Lucy Evans 1.04m High Jump & 7.70m Javelin and Gwennan Gruffydd 3.11m Long Jump.
U13B Sean Strevens 14.0 100m & 1.40m High Jump; Sam Rees 2.27.5 800m & 3.69m Long Jump; Jack Jones 16.8 75m Hurdles; Eli Hazelwood-Healings 7.92m Shot and Oliver Hale 19.00m Javelin.
U13G Ava Jones & Jessica Arnold both 14.2; Georgie-Bo Davies 2.38.8 800m; Mandida Rushesha & Gwenllian Jones both 12.6 70m Hurdles; Mandida Rushesha 1.36m High Jump; Tabitha Ventress-Brett 3.67m Long Jump; Dylan Palmer-Sweeney 8.63m Shot and Belle Thomas 17.55m Javelin.

Wednesday 13th July was round 2 of the Swansea Bay 5km series where the club was out in force. Our first five men and women home were:
Men: there was a fine win for Jonathan Butler in 15.39, joining him on the podium in 2nd was Marc Hobbs 15.44 followed home by 4th Ben Williams 16.11; 5th Matthew Verran 16.58 and 6th Alfie Robinson 16.38.
Women: There was another fine win for Sioned Howells in 17.51; 2nd Emma Baxter 19.41; making it a clean sweep of the podium was 3rd Helen-Marie Davies 19.57; 5th Lutica Thomas 20.19 and 7th Nina Brocklebank 22.01.

Wednesday 13th July was the Cardiff Open meeting where SW Millie Fakande ran a 57.12 for 400m; U23W Niamh Jones 65.22 400m; SM Jacob Wilkinson 51.54 400m; SM Guy Smith 15.05.67 5000m; SM Jack Houghton 55.34 400m Hurdles and U23M Charlie Brown 61.13 400m Hurdles.
Friday 15th July SM Joseph Brier ran a superb opening leg of the mixed 4 x 400m at the World Athletics Championships at Eugene, USA recording a split time of 45.4, unfortunately the team time was not quick enough to progress to the final placing 6th in the heat. Nevertheless a fine achievement indeed, and Joseph now goes into our Hall Of Fame – again! Well done Joseph!
Saturday 16th July saw the U17 British Schools International held at Belfast Northern Ireland where Swansea Harriers had nine athletes selected to represent the Welsh Schools team. Megan Gwyther (Bishop Vaughan) was 8th in the 80m Hurdles in 12.00; Evan Cole (Bryn Tawe) 14.09 for 8th in the 100m Hurdles; Ben Fenwick 35.25m Hammer for 8th; Harry Newton (Pontarddulais) 3.85m Pole Vault for 6th; Matilda Quick (Morriston) 1.59m High Jump for 6th; Macsen Holland (Bishopston) 37.30m Discus for 8th and a 36.42m Javelin for 8th; Amy Beynon (Bishopston) 3.15m for 4th; Lucy Harris (Gowerton) 37.94m Discus for 4th and the main highlight of the weekend was without doubt a 61.01m Javelin GOLD for Lewie Jones of (Olchfa) backed up by a 5th in the Shot with 13.12m, well done all on such a great set of results and weekend not to be forgot!
Saturday 16th & Sunday 17th July saw the England Athletics U20 & U23 Championships at Bedford incorporating the trials for the World Junior Athletics Championships where U23M Mitchell Lawrence ran 50.00 in his 400m heat to place 6th and U23M Jack Houghton ran a 400m Hurdles PB of 54.67 in the final just missing a medal in 4th, well done both!
Saturday 16th July was the 7.5 Mile Multi Terrain Run at Merthyr Mawr incorporating the Welsh Championships. Our sole competitor was W50 Sharon Leech who had a great run to place 4th woman overall, well done Sharon! Sharon then had to try and have good nights sleep before her son Joshua ran the following day in Euegene below!!
Sunday 17th July SM Joshua Griffiths did himself proud at the World Athletics Championships at Eugene, Orgegan USA where he placed 49th against the very best Marathon runners in the World despite carrying an injury to finish in a time of 2.17.37 and once again goes into our Hall Of Fame!
Sunday 17th July in the Newham & Essex Beagles open meeting in Stratford, SW Hannah Brier breaks her own all time club record yet again with a 23.29!! this was after earlier running another quick 11.44 in the 100m, very many congratulations Hannah! Also at Stretford was Millie Fakande running a 25.62 for 200m and a 57.41 for 400m both very quick time in themselves, well done Millie!
