Results Round Up
This week opposite to last week, we have loads of results to catch up on from, Karlstad & Sollentuna Sweden, Newport x 3, Aberdare, Loughborough, Carmarthen, Manchester, Exeter & Swansea x 2, including 2 new all time club records! Enjoy the long read!
The missing Pole Vault results from Newport on Saturday 12th June have now been updated and we can now confirm that U17M William Trott has broken the club record for Pole Vault with a height of 4.21m, well done William! In the same event U17M Harry Newton cleared 3.15m; U17W Millie Carter 3.05m & U17M Dafydd King 2.95m.
Tuesday 22nd June U17W Hannah Kinane extends her lead at the top of the Welsh rankings for 800m recording a time of 2:12.01 in Karlstad Sweden maybe if C19 travel restrictions ease before the end of the season we will get her and dad being to get over here to compete with us again, fingers crossed! And belated congratulations on her 4:42.26 1500m at Sollentuna, Sweden back on 13th June too!
Tuesday 22nd June was the Welsh throws invitation only at Aberdare where five of our juniors were in action where U15G Matilda Quick threw a 10.63m Shot; U20W Cassey Grimwade threw a 27.22m Shot and a 40.61m Hammer; U17W Ruby Jones throws a 42.45m Hammer; U17M George Snaith 47.83m Javelin and U17W Chloe Jones 38.58m Javelin, well done to them all.
Wednesday 23rd June SM Dominic Smith set a fast time of 8:42.93 over 3000m in Loughborough!
Wednesday 23rd June was the Welsh Athletics sprints and jumps open meeting at Newport where seven of our members travelled up the M4 on a Wednesday, and in the 100m SM Kelvin Tannor ran 11.60 and M60 Roderick Davies 14.58. Over the 200m SW Lauryn Davey produced a time of 26.65 followed by U20W Macey Morris 26.92 and SW Millie Fakande 27.26. The high jump saw U17M Samuel Davies clear 1.70m SW Lauryn Davey 1.60m and U17M Joseph Beresford 1.60m.
Thursday 24th June was the Carmarthen Javelin & Shot open meeting where we had another great turnout of competitors recording the following distances: Shot: U20M Oscar Dun 13.01m; U15B Nathaniel Osborne 10.07m; U15G Matilda Quick 9.98m; U17W Katie Lake 9.14m and U15G Jemimah Brown 6.34m. Javelin: SM Nathan James 56.93m; U15B Lewie Jones 50.21m; U15B Carwyn Tumelty 25.08m; U17W Chloe Jones 38.94m; U17W Lucy Harris 30.92m and U15G Carys Morgan 20.01m, very well done to them all!
The weekend of Friday 25th to Sunday 27th June were the British Senior Championships incorporating the trials for the Tokyo Summer Olympics. It was fantastic to see Swansea Harriers well represented up against the very best athletes Great Britain has to offer.
Caryl Granville ran 58.09 in her 400m Hurdles heat and recorded a time of 57.01 for 7th in the final against arguably one of the strongest line ups in the history of the event domestically; Risqat Fabunmi-Alade ran 12.17 in her 100m heat and eventually finished 7th in her semi final in 11.98, she also placed 5th in her 200m heat in 24.38; Daniel Beadsley ran 10.84 in his 100m heat, and finished 6th in his semi final 10.60; Joseph Brier would have been disappointed not to have made the 400m final after running “only” 47.43 in his heat for 3rd by his own high standards, however his week has got off to an awesome start after being announced in the Great Britain & Northern Ireland team for the 400m and 4 x 400m relay at the European U23 Team Championships between the 8-11 July in Tallinn, Estonia, congratulations Joseph! Guy Smith finished 7th in his 1500m heat in 3:51.18; Hannah Brier was 7th in her 200m heat in 24.64; Jonathan Hopkins was 6th in the 3000m Steeplechase Final in 8:48.54 and despite putting in an awesome performance to win the Womens 5000m BRONZE medal in a world class time of 15:12.24 Verity Ockenden has missed out on selection for the Olympic Games by a whisker despite having the qualifying time from a couple of weeks ago, we’d of picked her!
Saturday 26th June was the Welsh Athletics event specific open meeting at Newport where in the 800m U17W Ella Davies posted a time of 2:28.88 in the 1500m we had the five runners recording the following times; U17M Charlie Harris 4:23.45; U17M Tom Attwood 4:35.88; U17W Mai Davies 5:04.19; U15G Ava Davies 5:07.24 and SW Olivia Gwynn 4:33.56. In the 3000m U15G Sophie Hartley-Green ran 11:50.31; M60 Ifan Lloyd ran a PB of 10:00.87 and SM Daniel Morgan 10:32.04. In the 3000m Walk SW Shannon Thomas set a time of 17:18.11 and in the Pole Vault M55 Glyn Price vaulted 3.66m followed by SW Carys Jones 3.56m; U17M Dafydd King 3.26m and U15G Amy Beynon 2.66m.
Sunday 27th June was round 2 of the U17 & U20 Youth Development League at home in Swansea. Firstly our thanks to all the volunteers who made the vent possible under such challenging circumstances. On the day it was a fine win for the squad in this fantastic grassroots TEAM event just scraping the win by 4 points! 1st Swansea 199 points, 2nd Cardiff AAC 194; 3rd West Wales 171; 4th Cardiff Archers 126 and 5th South Wales 114. Monday 28th June was the Swansea Harriers Long Jump & High Jump members only event where there was a great turnout, and once again thanks to all of the volunteers who made it possible after such a busy few days of athletics. We had 16 long jumpers and 13 high jumper take part with the top five performances made by:
High Jump: U20M Addam Bowling 1.83m; U17M Joseph Beresford 1.65m; U17M Samuel Davies 1.65m; U15G Matilda Quick 1.50m and U15B Connor Moriarty 1.45m.
Long Jump: U17M Dylan Morgan 5.85m; U15B Drew Dodd 5.17m; U17W Sarah Lyons 5.15m; U15G Bethan Holley 4.60m and SW Charlotte Campion 4.56m.

Tuesday 29th June U13G Libby Hale set her second all time club record of 2021 this time in the 1500m at Exeter, Libby won her race in a time of 4:49.72 which also takes her to 2nd place on the all time Welsh Rankings for U13G, well done Libby!
