Results Round Up & Other News
This week we have results to round up for you from , Tourn POLAND, Craigavon, Llanelli, Plymouth, Watford including our first club record of 2023, and Swansea Council Sports Awards.
Monday 27th March to Monday 3rd April were the World Masters Athletics Championships at Torun Poland where two of our Masters made the very long journey to get there. SM Glyn Price came away with yet another medal in the Pole Vault where he won BRONZE in the M55 with a best of 3.65m absolutely amazing!! M65 Chris Pruski placed 6th in his 60m heat in 10.20 and 13th in the Javelin final with a best throw of 29.59m, very well done both on such great performances!
Sunday 2nd April was the Anglo Celtic 100km (yes 100km) International at South Lake Leisure Centre in Craigavon, Northern Ireland, where representing Wales the Welsh Record was broken by our very own Daniel Rothwell in 6 hours, 43 minutes and 25 seconds, 30 seconds inside the previous Welsh Record which was set in 1989! Very many congratulations on such a fantastic achievement!
Sunday 2nd April was the Llanelli Full & Half Marathons starting and finishing at Pembrey Country Park. It was a very successful event for Swansea Harriers with a win for Blair McWhirter over the Marathon in a time of 2.28.48 who was followed across the line by 10th Michael Bryant 2.49.53; 12th Charles Walsh 2.50.28 and 47th Simon Lewis 3.14.15.
In the half marathon distance is was another fine win for Dewi Griffiths in 1.03.48 eight minutes ahead of the runner up another Swansea Harrier Will Munday in 1.11.25, following them home were 13th Daniel Morgan 1.19.25; 27th Sam Joseph 1.27.05 and 136th Robin D’Arcy 1.46.29 making our top 5 Men.
The womens half marathon saw our 3rd win of the day with Hannah Munday crossing the line first in a time of 1.26.34, making it our second double of the day was 2nd Emma Baxter 1.27.05 then it was Millie Thorne in 5th 1.35.38; 21st Yvonne McDermott-Rees 1.44.28 and Tabea Dilling in 1.55.49 making our top 5 Women.

Sunday 2nd April SW Charlotte Campion jumps a 5.29m for the Long Jump at the Plymouth Spring Open Meeting, well done Charlotte!
Wednesday 5th April at Watford U15G Libby Hale broke our first club record of 2023 setting the superb time of 4.30.24 in the 1500m finishing 3rd in the Watford Open Meeting, this time would also be a Welsh Record when ratified, very many congratulations Libby on such an amazing performance!
Last week was the annual Swansea City Council Sports Awards where the club submitted a number of nominations, unfortunately there were no winners this year, however we did have two runner ups, Senior Sportswoman of the year was Megan Carter-Davies primarily for her achievements in Orienteering, who missed out to former member Non Stanford for her achievements in Triathlon. Our U15G were runners up in the junior sports team of the year after a very successful 2022 winning their section of all the YDL fixtures. Pictured are team manager Catherine and our U15G dignitaries who represented the club at the ceremony, two of whom Libby Hale & Matilda Quick were also shortlisted for junior female sports person of the year .
