Saturday 14th October Cross Country League Match 1 of 5 for all age groups incorporating the West Wales Championships

Saturday 14th October will see the West Wales Cross Country Championships will take place in the West Region at Pembrey Country Park, SA16 0EJ, incorporated into the John H Collins Gwent Cross Country League 1. The same race will host the West Wales Inter-Regional Cross Country Championships selection race.

The club will pay for you to run in this joint league and championship match. However, you must contact your team manager before race day so they know to register you, please don’t just show up! At Pembrey report to our club tent no later than 1 hour before your race starts, to collect your number from your team manager and to allow you time to warm up and walk the course.

To be eligible for the West Wales championships and selection athletes must be registered to their club & Welsh Athletics, in addition must have one of the following qualifications:
A: – BIRTH; the athlete having been born in West Wales (Dyfed or West Glamorgan).
B: – RESIDENCE; a minimum of 9 months continuous residence in West Wales immediately prior to this event.

Medals will be awarded to the top 3 West Wales eligible runners in junior races at the finish line – U11, U13, U15, U17 & U20.
This year, medals will not just be awarded to the top 3 in the seniors/masters regardless of age group, but to the top 3 Men & Women in all the Seniors, Masters 35-44, Masters 45-54, Masters 55-64 & Masters 65+ categories.
With the challenge of identifying the correct athletes in the mixed senior/master races at the finish line, these medals will be distributed by post/hand once full results have been published and ratified by the league.

The West Wales junior, senior & masters teams to represent the West region in the joint Welsh Inter Regional and Welsh Inter Schools Cross Country Championships at Newtown on Saturday 18th November, will be selected using the results of the John H Collins Gwent League on Saturday 14th October 2023 too. Note that only U13 and over can be selected for West Wales.

 

The top 13 West Wales eligible finishers, plus 2 other West Wales athletes in each age group and gender will be emailed selection letters directly and/or via their club membership secretary after the 14th October once the electronic results are made public.
Athletes who finish outside of the top 13 West Wales eligible athletes at Pembrey, or who are not available to run on the 14th should email team leader Rob Campion at [email protected] to be added to the list of potential reserves to be considered for selection.
To represent West Wales at Newtown athletes must again have one of the following qualifications:
A: – BIRTH; the athlete having been born in West Wales (Dyfed or West Glamorgan).
B: – RESIDENCE; a minimum of 9 months continuous residence in West Wales immediately prior to this event.
