Results round up and volunteers needed…..

Results:

A quiet weekend with just two individual results to round up this week. Prior to a very busy next seven days or so of competitions;

Saturday 19th & Sunday 20th June were the England (UK) U20 & U23 Championships held at Bedford where the club had just the two representatives U23M Jack Houghton was 4th in his 400m Hurdles heat recording a time of 57.14 and U23M Steffan Jones had a very successful weekend recording two personal bests in the 400m and bagging himself a Bronze medal finishing the final in 47.84  and 47.87 in his heat!

Volunteers Needed:

Swansea Harriers are entirely reliant on volunteers for the club to function and are eternally grateful for their support. Covid 19 has been particularly challenging for us, as it has been for all sports clubs. So that the club can try and re grow its membership over the upcoming months and years, it is vital that we rebuild our team of dedicated volunteers, to create capacity for more athletes to return to training and competition. Outlined below are four key areas where additional volunteers are currently required. If you would consider helping us out please get in touch or speak to any of our volunteers on club nights for more detail.

Club Cafe: collecting training fees, maintaining registers for track and trace and selling club kit. We have eight time slots a week to fill and are looking for a couple of extra volunteers for the teams of three, so that volunteers can cover each other if others aren’t available. The slots where we need one or two more extras are; Mondays @ 4.45pm, Mondays @ 6.15pm, Tuesdays @ 4.45pm, Tuesdays @ 6.15pm & Thursdays @ 6.15pm. Full training by the existing volunteers is provided as well as exhilarating company!

Covid Marshalls: ensuring social distancing is maintained and mitigated on the indoor & outdoor tracks and that all athletes have completed the registers for track & trace. The company is equally exhilarating as in the club cafe team, but you have the added bonus of wearing the Hi Viz Covid Marshall jackets! The slots where we need one or two more extras for additional cover in the teams of three, in case of unavailability are: Mondays @ 4.45pm; Mondays @ 6.15pm; Wednesdays @ 4.45pm; Wednesdays @ 6.15pm & Thursdays @ 4.45pm.

Coaching: More parents/guardians are required to help supervise the sessions to help ensure all the children are engaged, and to perform tasks such as raking sand pits, replacing high jump/pole vault bars, collecting throwing implements, if you think you can handle this please speak to any of the coaches before or after training sessions. Then if you get involved and enjoy we might even get you signed up on a coaching qualification, maybe like this one!

Officiating: There aren’t quite as many competitions this year as usual across the board especially for the U11 & U13 age groups. Recruitment of UK Athletics qualified officials are absolutely essential so the club can create plenty of competitive opportunities for home and away fixtures as well as in house. If you are willing and available to help at any of the clubs fixtures as a track judge, timekeeper or field judge please contact us. Even if you are only to help at a handful of events a year this makes a huge difference to the to the club. For more detail on the world of officiating please read the Officials welcome pack final  Then if you get involved and enjoy we might even get you signed up on an officiating qualification, maybe like this one!
