Weekly Update Thursday 10th September
This week we have a results round up from Manchester, Yeovil, Swansea, Bangor, Straford & Par, additional track and field fixtures whilst spaces remain, and important reminders on the latest status for new members and covid 19 regulations to be adhered to.
Results:
Friday 4th and Saturday 5th September saw the rearranged British Senior Championships held at Manchester. Six Swansea Harriers were in action all of whom got shown competing live on the BBC! SM Daniel Beadsley progressed to the 100m semi final recording a time of (10.66) placing 5th. SW Risqat Fabunmi-Alade made it to the 100m final finishing 6th in (11.86). SW Hannah Brier set a time of (25.14) in her 200m heat, qualified for the final but had to withdraw. U20M Steffan Jones set a lifetime best of (47.97) in his 400m heat, whilst SM Joseph Brier who ran in the same heat as Steffan made it all the way to the final, where in a thrilling race that any of the competitors could heave won with just 30m to go placed 5th in (47. 29). The main highlight was SW Verity Ockenden winning SILVER in the 5000m crossing the line in a time of (15.41.19) well done Verity! Congratulations to them all on their performances under difficult circumstances this year!
Saturday 5th September at Yeovil SW Jodi Beynon set a time of (2.25.34) in the 800m.
Sunday 6th September at Swansea was the Welsh Athletics U17, U20 & Seniors throws only open meeting. We had no representatives in the first event hammer, but we did in all other throws. U20M Joshua Wilton threw (41.10m) in the discus. In the Javelin U17M George Snaith threw (46.93m); SW Lauryn Davey (34.27m) and U17W Chloe Jones (32.95m); The final throw of Shot saw four Swansea Harriers who in descending order threw; U17M Oscar Dun (13,01m); U20W Jamie Holland (10.84m); SW Lauryn Davey (10.40m); SW Jodi Beynon (10.38m). Very well done to them all.
Sunday 6th September again saw U20M Steffan Jones in action at Bangor, where he ran (11.0) for 100m and (22.0) for 200m.
Sunday 6th September SM Daniel Beadsley was also in his second competition of the weekend, this time setting a very quick lifetime best of (10.58) for 100m at Stratford, well done Daniel!
Sunday 6th September U20M Kaya Cairney runs (11.0) for 1oom and (22.3) for 200m at Par.
Fixtures:
There are four track and field fixtures this weekend and next at Aberdare, Cardiff, Yate & Yeovil, some still have spaces, keep an eye on the annual fixtures page so you don’t miss out.
New Members:
The club is unable to take on any new members at this time. With outdoor gatherings still restricted to 30, the club have been unable to recommence training on track with all of our existing membership. Until outdoor track capacity is increased significantly from 30 by Welsh Government with guidance then cascading down to Welsh Athletics and Swansea University, we are “snookered”.
Covid-19:
The covid 19 plan has now changed. All changes are shown in bold and red, there are specific changes regarding social distancing for track event athletes. The plan MUST be read in full before any athletes recommence training. Swansea Harriers Covid Plan Version 2 at 31.08.20.pdf Until track capacity increases from the current 30, so the club can try to cater for as many of our existing club members, both the 5pm and 6.30pm* sessions continue to remain restricted to paid up Swansea Harriers club members only, this is only a temporary arrangement until track capacity is increased. All sessions must be pre booked with your coach, you cannot just turn up. *excluding Mondays at 6.30pm where coaches can coach who they choose within their set ratios.
Swansea University have now moved their booking system online for all other users. Bookable time slots are now Monday to Thursdays inclusive 2pm to 3.15pm and 3.30pm to 4.45pm also Saturdays 9.30am to 11.30am. To book and pre pay click here.
The club is in need of additional covid 19 officers from 5pm Mondays to Thursdays inclusive. If you are willing and available to assist once a week please speak to our existing covid officers at training. These are essential short term roles that the club needs to fill, any offers of assistance are greatly appreciated.
Annual Membership Fees:
All athletes being coached on or off track must have renewed their annual subs, as per the covid plan and for their personal insurance 2020-2021 Membership Application for New Members & Renewals
